“Community theatre is the one place where being weird, being different, being strange is considered an asset…”

That quote alone stopped us in our tracks.

This video perfectly captures why community theatre matters (especially in small towns and communities like ours). It’s about so much more than performing on a stage. It’s about giving people a place to belong, to create, to grow, and to be unapologetically themselves.

For some, theatre becomes confidence.
For some, it becomes friendship.
For some, it becomes family.
For some, it becomes home.

If you have ever been part of Landmark - whether on stage, backstage, in the audience, volunteering, or supporting from the community - we think this video will resonate with you.

Take a few minutes to watch. We’d love to hear what community theatre has meant to you. 💜

There is something truly historic happening for the future of theatre in Braxton County. 💜🎭

The Landmark Studio for the Arts is proud to celebrate the return of theatre education to Braxton County High School, taught by Landmark Player and LYTE alumna, Mrs. Taylor High.

For many years, Braxton County High School did not have a theatre program. During that time, students who were interested in performing arts had no classroom-based theatre education available to them and instead found their only outlet through community theatre, here, at the Landmark.

While the Landmark provides meaningful and formative experiences, it also made clear something important: without a school-based program, students were missing the structured educational foundation that helps prepare them for theatre beyond high school.

That is why this moment is so significant.

Mrs. High returned to BCHS this past fall as Director of Bands and Choir Director, with the hope of one day restoring theatre education to the school. That hope has now become reality, marking the return of a program that had been absent for years.

Before returning home, Mrs. High taught band and theatre in another county, gaining experience across all disciplines. Her path in the arts began at the Landmark at just 4 years old and continued through LYTE, where early theatre experiences helped shape her into an educator.

The Landmark has always been more than a theatre; it has been a second home and a foundation. The same stage where she once performed is now a place where she watches her own 2-year-old begin her journey, continuing a legacy that spans generations.

This moment represents something bigger than one classroom or one organization. It is the rebuilding of a bridge between school and community arts - something that did not exist for many years in Braxton County.

We are incredibly excited to see theatre return to BCHS and to watch students now experience both the educational foundation of a classroom program and the lifelong friendships and creative growth that come from the Landmark.

The future of the arts in Braxton County is not just bright, it is being rebuilt, together. 💚💛

We have been a little quiet since Saturday because we are still recovering from an absolutely incredible weekend at the Wasteland Jamboree.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community and to every single visitor who came out, watched The Legend of the Phantom of Flatwoods, and supported our youth theatre, LYTE, through milkshake sales, concessions, and donations. Your presence, your encouragement, and your kindness meant more than we can fully express.

We truly gained a whole new family this weekend. The support we received was overwhelming in the best possible way, and we are still in awe of it all. As a small theatre run by a small but deeply dedicated group of arts supporters, every ticket purchased, every kind review, every dollar donated, and every smile in our audience directly helps us keep the lights on and continue creating opportunities for young artists in our community.

Because of you, we were able to do even more than we imagined.

To our local community, thank you for continuing to show up for us. And to our visitors from near and far, we hope this is just the beginning. We would love to see you again at another show, at the next festival, or even simply as part of continuing to support the arts in any way you can.

You are now part of the Landmark family, and we are so incredibly grateful to have you with us.

If you’d like to keep up with everything happening at Landmark Studio for the Arts, you can visit our website to grab tickets, make a donation, check out upcoming productions, purchase merch, or join our contact list for updates on future events:
