This past Sunday, members of Pack 243 and Troop 243 gathered at First Congregational Church in Sutton for our annual Scout Sunday service. The church serves as our chartering organization and continues to provide our Scouts with a place to meet, grow, and serve.

Pastor Dave Buchanan, a former Scout himself, led a thoughtful service that once again placed Scouting at the center of the message. Each year he finds meaningful ways to incorporate Scouts into the sermon, highlighting the values of service, community, and character that define the program. It is a tradition our Scouts look forward to and one that reflects the strong partnership between the church and our units.

Scout Sunday is also an opportunity for our youth to give back to an organization that gives so much to us throughout the year. We are grateful for the continued support of First Congregational Church and for the chance to participate in such a meaningful annual tradition.

Tonight the Arrow of Light Den spent the evening working on elective adventures with a focus on kitchen, knife, and food preparation safety. Scouts talked through safe habits, proper tool handling, and why awareness and responsibility matter when working around food and equipment. It was a hands on, practical meeting that builds confidence and skills they will carry well beyond Scouting.

Friday night’s Pack meeting was all about getting ready for one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Pinewood Derby, hosted at Sutton’s own Dudley Gendron American Legion Post.

Scouts and families rotated through hands on stations focused on design, weight placement, wheels and axles, and reducing friction. Leaders also reviewed Council and Pack Pinewood Derby rules so families understand what is allowed and how to keep the event fair, fun, and consistent for everyone. Along the way, we emphasized good sportsmanship, doing your best, and remembering that the Derby is about learning, teamwork, and having fun, not just winning.

One of the highlights of the night was seeing our Arrow of Light Den step into a mentorship role. The AOL Scouts shared lessons learned from their past Derby experiences, talked about what worked (and what did not), and helped younger Scouts think through their own designs. It was a great example of leadership, confidence, and Scouts supporting Scouts.

We also took time to celebrate some outstanding effort during our annual Pie in the Face tradition. Scouts who sold over $500 in Trail’s End popcorn earned the chance to put a pie in the face of one of our volunteer leaders. It was messy, loud, and a lot of fun, and a great way to recognize the hard work that helps fund our Pack’s activities all year long.

Thank you to the Dudley Gendron Post 414 American Legion for hosting us, and to our volunteer leaders, Arrow of Light Scouts, and families who helped make the evening a success. We are looking forward to seeing the creativity, teamwork, and sportsmanship on display at the Pinewood Derby.

Our annual holiday party, held during December’s Pack meeting last night (Friday, December 12th), was a fantastic way to wrap up the year together.

Scouts from across the Pack spent the evening building esprit de corps and camaraderie while rotating through a variety of holiday-themed activities. They made ornaments, assembled 3D-printed neckerchief slides, painted small gifts, decorated cookies, played games, and enjoyed plenty of laughter along the way.

It was wonderful to see Scouts of different ages working together, encouraging one another, and sharing in the fun that makes Cub Scouting so special. A huge thank you to our amazing Scout leaders and volunteers who put together such a thoughtful, creative, and memorable evening for the Pack.

A great night, a great group of Scouts, and a great way to head into the holidays.

A little late, but absolutely worth sharing, Pack 243 had an incredible overnight adventure at the New England Air Museum from November 14–15!

Our Scouts spent the night surrounded by the history of flight, exploring aircraft from every era and learning about the pioneers who pushed aviation forward. From hands-on exhibits to standing beneath massive planes that shaped our military and commercial airspace, the museum delivered an unforgettable experience.

This trip was a hit with every Scout who attended. The mix of learning, discovery, and pure excitement made it one of the highlights of our fall season.

Thank you to the New England Air Museum for hosting an engaging and memorable program for our Pack!

Scouts from Pack 243 had an exciting evening last Friday at the Sutton Police Station for our First Responder Pack Meeting!

Scouts from all Dens spent time with Officers Liriano and Danna, and even got to meet Dispatcher Jess. They learned about personal and online safety, how to access emergency services, and explored the equipment and facilities that help keep our community safe.

A huge thank-you to the Sutton Police Department for taking the time to educate our Scouts and for everything they do to protect and serve our town!

This afternoon, Scouts from Pack 243 spent the day exploring the outdoors at Marion Camp. The adventure began with a short hike where Scouts identified animal signs, learned about plants, and practiced “Leave No Trace” principles. Afterwards, they turned their attention to fishing safety, practicing casting through games before heading to Lake Singletary to try their hand at fishing.

Days like this are what Cub Scouting is all about: building skills, confidence, and a love for the outdoors. If your family has ever thought about Scouting, now is a great time to check us out, we’ve got a full year of activities planned.

And while we’re at it… don’t forget that Pack 243 is also selling popcorn! Every purchase supports adventures like today’s and helps us keep the program going strong for Sutton kids.
