Hello all! I would like to have input from everyone.
Businesses have a difficult time surviving in Sutherlin, of course there are many reasons for this.
We would all like to have successful businesses thrive here, so lets have some discussion on what might work here and what business would you like to have open here. And how could existing businesses do to improve, Please keep comments all positive.
What can we suggest to help.

Good news! Today Wed November 15 I met with Jerry and we drafted a new ordinance that addresses our concerns.
We now have the items covered that we wanted originally and removed the items we objected to..
I am planning a meeting soon to show you the new draft, stay tuned for a meeting place and time. Gary Dagel

Thank you all! We had a good response from the business community at the Tuesday night meeting and we are now ready to present this to the city council at their next meeting on Monday night. So far we have had nearly a 100% positive response from the businesses in our fair city.

We had a fantastic meeting on Aug 29, We concluded our summary of the business registration and form. This was a result of all those who provided input and opinions. Thank you all!

We will present the Business Registration Plan to the business community on September 19, 2017 from 7:00-8:30 pm, at the Sutherlin Community Center. Please attend to be informed, .give your input, and show our city council our unity on this subject.

We would like to thank the city council for the opportunity to voice our thoughts and give them our input. This is how the government should work. Sutherlin is a great place to live and work!

Hello all... No committee meeting this week on August 15

We had a very productive business committee meeting last Tuesday night. I reported on the meetings I had with city staff and business owners.
We discussed several of the issues including emergency contact information, possible fees if any,and other concerns .
Next committee meeting August 8.
We will have a general meeting for all businesses in late August
We will report on our findings and recommendations.
all Sutherlin businesses are encouraged to participate and provide input,...please attend .... don't be left out!

Below is our progress report to the Sutherlin City Council:

We are still in the information and opinion-gathering stage. I have met informally with most of the committee members. Prior commitments and conflicting availability schedules have made a formal meeting difficult to organize.

I have met with several business owners and talked to many of the city staff. Through these discussions, I have gathered that:

1. Most business owners do not necessarily oppose the registration for emergency contact information.

2. A large majority of the owners do not approve of a background check.

3. Zoning is recognized as a legitimate issue for the city and should be addressed.

4. The fee is a concern for nearly all businesses.

5. Duplicating registration and license registration requirements is deemed unnecessary.

6. The cost to the city to gather this information, and enforcement, is a concern and could become an issue.

7. Anything implemented should not require the city to add staff or increase the workload for current staff.

8. Having a list of businesses would be an asset for most, including potential new business interests.

9. Simplicity is very important.

10. The extent of government involvement in our lives (from federal, state, county, and city) has become intrusive and frustrating, and is a concern to everyone we spoke to.

We plan to hold a general meeting for all concerned businesses at the community/civic center, week of August 7. Details will be posted on this page as soon as available.

We intend to submit our final report and recommendations at the September council meeting.
