Sutherlin High School Veteran Visitation Day SHS Veteran Visitation started in 2015 and is an annual event that brings real life history to our students through collaboration and discussion.

A special thanks to the Quilts of Valor for sharing their purpose for veterans with our students and to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 805 of Roseburg for sharing the Oregon Memorial Traveling Wall with us!

At our Veterans Visitation Day event, our students worked with the Umpqua Valley Quilters Guild to help create squares for the Quilts of Valor. Quilts of Valor are presented to veterans who have been touched by war. The Quilters Guild will be presenting the 6 quilts that Sutherlin Students helped create at the 38th Annual Quilt Show at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on April 28th-April 30th, 2023.

This week, the quilts are displayed in the Sutherlin High School library for students to see.

SHS Veteran Visition

This event was started by Mrs. Hunt, an employee of Sutherlin Middle School, in 2015 as a result of her passion for bringing those lived experiences to today’s youth. Sutherlin High School is extremely proud to promote our support of bringing history to life through the experiences shared by local veterans that come and visit with our students each year. We are extremely grateful to all the veterans that come each year and hope to continue to grow this event annually as well.
