Public Notice: Request for Proposals

Project: Collaborative Dyer WUI Fuels Phase II and East Shore Shaded Fuel Break - Phase I Mastication

Lassen Fire Safe Council, Inc. and Plumas County Fire Safe Council are seeking proposals from qualified mastication operators to implement mastication treatments to reduce hazardous wildfire
fuels in the Lake Almanor/ Westwood area. The project covers approximately 1,400 acres of private timberlands between Canyon Dam and Westwood in Plumas and Lassen Counties.

A contractor tour is scheduled for 6/12/2026.

Lassen County homeowners can sign up for a FREE defensible space assessments and, if qualified, receive FREE defensible space work out to 100 feet from your residence. https://www.lassenfiresafecouncil.org/lassen-county-defensible-space-program-sign-up

Today, May 2, 2026 is NFPA Wildfire Community Preparedness Day! Whether you are in an organized Firewise USA community, or are part of a community living in a Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), each of us can help by taking the time to reduce the risks on our properties. Pick a project in the Home Ignition Zone, big or small, and make a difference!

Rake up some leaves, pine needles and pine cones. Clean your gutters of debris. Screen your eaves or under your porch with 1/8” galvanized mesh to prevent embers from entering. Remove plants from within five feet of your home. Move your woodpile further from your house. Replace tanbark mulch with stones. There are so many things we can all do to better protect our homes. What will you do today?
