Here's a photo from a LFSC Board member in the Susanville area. It's an important reminder of how quickly dry lightning can find the dead and dry brush and grasses near homes and why defensible space matters. If you live in Lassen County and haven't signed up for the FREE defensible space assessment and FREE defensible space work on your property if you qualify, please do so today. Lassen Fire Safe Council is actively doing the assessments by neighborhoods and the High Sierra Fire, Inc. crew is performing the defensible space work on qualified properties, so please sign up to participate. Please join us for the June 17, 2026 public General Meeting at 5:30 at the Susan River Fire Hall 705-145 Highway 395, Johnstonville. Managing Director Cade Mohler will give an update on current projects, including the Defensible Space Assistance Programs, and upcoming grant proposals.

Come meet with us and our agencies partners to learn what we can all do to make our communities safer from wildfires. It is a great opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions. We hope to see you there! 😀🌲🔥

Public Notice: Request for Proposals

Project: Collaborative Dyer WUI Fuels Phase II and East Shore Shaded Fuel Break - Phase I Mastication

Lassen Fire Safe Council, Inc. and Plumas County Fire Safe Council are seeking proposals from qualified mastication operators to implement mastication treatments to reduce hazardous wildfire
fuels in the Lake Almanor/ Westwood area. The project covers approximately 1,400 acres of private timberlands between Canyon Dam and Westwood in Plumas and Lassen Counties.

A contractor tour is scheduled for 6/12/2026.

If you are one of our Firewise communities and want help setting up an event, or you would like to form a Firewise USA community in Lassen County, let us know by commenting, or contacting our Regional Coordinator, Tonya Smith at [email protected]. BTW, Lake Forest, Janesville, and Susanville still need a Firewise leadership team, so consider volunteering to help your community retain its Firewise recognition. It's easier than you think!😍
