🌱 SCUFFF Community Update: Growth, Legacy & Love 🌱
This past year has been one of powerful growth for the Surry County United Food Forestry Foundation (SCUFFF).
On our 1.15-acre living model site, we continue expanding regenerative practices that demonstrate what food sovereignty can look like right here in Surry County. From hugelkultur mounds to pollinator gardens, protected wildlife habitat to our growing Humanitree orchard circle — the land is responding. The soil is softening. The biodiversity is increasing. The vision is becoming visible.
And today, we pause to honor the man who was the first to truly say, “This is possible.”
Chuck believed in this vision before it had form. Before the gardens were planted. Before the systems were built. He saw what we were building before we could fully articulate it ourselves. His steady presence and quiet faith in the work gave us courage.
Recently, Chuck’s family made a generous donation to our Village Library, helping us expand educational resources for regenerative agriculture, food forestry, and community resilience. Knowledge, like seeds, multiplies when shared — and this gift ensures that future generations will continue learning from this land.
We are also creating a Cat Sanctuary in Chuck’s honor — a peaceful, protected space within our village ecosystem to provide continued loving care for his beloved cats. It feels only fitting that the man who believed in sanctuary for the earth would have a sanctuary created in his name. 🐾🌿
Grief and gratitude walk hand in hand right now.
We are growing — not only plants, but legacy.
Chuck’s belief lives on in every tree planted, every child who learns here, every neighbor who steps onto this land and feels hope.
If you would like to support the continued expansion of our food forest, village library, or the creation of Chuck’s Cat Sanctuary, you can donate through our Linktree: linktr.ee/SCUFFF2025
We are building something that lasts.
For Surry.
For our children.
For generations.
With love and stewardship,
SCUFFF 🌳💚
