Blue Hill Fair 2026!!! This year's theme: "Mr. McGregor's Garden". Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail each have their own garden planted with lettuce, spinach and broccoli. Many thanks to LuAnn, who I met at the Surry ReUse room, for donating her collection of ceramic bunnies to the cause. And to Shelly at Surry Gardens for the tiny garden tools. 💙🦋🐦

A morning well spent - two hours of prepping the ground down at the Town Landing for the Pollinator Pathway native plants we'll be transplanting there in September. The herons at low tide and bald eagles overhead were good company. Notice how we found the shadiest spot possible to be working on a hot August morning!

Surry Pollinator Pathway Project preps the Landing for a fall planting of coreopsis lanceolata, monarda fistulosa and New England aster. Now all we need is a good rain!!

You need more plants, right? Don't forget, the Ellsworth Garden Club's Plant Sale is this coming Saturday morning, June 6! And if you're headed to Ellsworth from Surry, our club will have our usual "2nd Chance Plant Sale", from 9 to 11. Just plants, no baked goodies. We still have a lot of nice things left, and many flats that didn't go out on May 30th.

WE'RE BACK!!! The Surry Garden Club's Annual Plant & Bake Sale, coming up this Saturday, 9 to 11, in the Rural Hall, 680 Surry Road. We took a year off in 2025 but we're back to our usual schedule of "always the last Saturday in May".

And we'll be there, rain or shine, because it's all indoors. We never know what we'll have on offer till our members bring in divisions and seedlings from their gardens, but there's always plenty of surprises. Our pricing guideline: "Reasonable & Friendly".

Stop by for coffee & muffins & shoptalk with your gardening neighbors and leave with a box full of new plants for your garden!

We are really excited to host Chad Hammer, invasive plant biologist with the Maine Dept. of Ag, Conservation and Forestry for this
important educational effort, co-sponsored by the Evergreen Garden Club of Deer Isle. You may not succeed in eradicating the invasive plants in your neighborhood, but you can - and should! - understand why they are a problem and learn best practices to manage them. Birds, bees, moths, butterflies and bats will thank you!

We'll have the wood stove going if needed, but the historic Rural Hall can be chilly in April, so bundle up. All are welcome; hearty refreshments served at 12:30. The department's excellent Invasive Plants Field Guide will be available for sale.

The Hall has plenty of room! We would love to see widespread progress on managing the invasive plants in our beautiful coastal towns. Please pass the word, friends at Bar Harbor Garden Club, Bucksport Garden Club, Blue Hill Heritage Trust, Blue Hill Garden Club and the Ellsworth Garden Club.
