Cycle4awareness was founded in 2012 by the late Michael Mirabella Mike teamed up with Ryan Rickus and they decided that they would like to cycle from Philadelphia to Key West to raise money and awareness for Autism Speaks Foundation. On the 15th of August 2012, Ryan and Mike started their journey to Key West. Their goal was to cover 100 miles a day while spending their down time at a hotel, crash at a friendly local’s pad, or under a tree, and that’s exactly what they did.
That following summer, 2013, Cycle4Awareness decided to change the organization they were helping, the route they would be cycling and would recruit a new teammate. Mike wanted to have a bigger impact, so he decided to help a smaller organization. Cycle4Awareness was fortunate enough to hook up with Athletes Helping Athletes Inc. Athletes Helping Athletes Inc is a wonderful organization that connected special needs athletes with student-athletes in the spirit of friendship for mutual benefit and inspiration. The new route was a long way from Philadelphia, Cycle4Awareness decided to cycle the West Coast, from Vancouver to San Diego and managed to pick up a new member, Fergal Barry. On the 14th of August 2013; Ryan, Mike and Fergal started the journey down the West Coast. They had the same premise to cycle 100 miles a day and with the help of the website Warm Showers, they had places to stay.
Tragically, that same year, Michael was diagnosed with Lymphoma. He passed away the following year on December 2, 2014 as just 23 years old. We ride to honor his giving spirit and keep Cycle4Awareness alive. We have three levels of sponsorship packages, as detailed below.
