There are two upcoming volunteer opportunities this summer co-hosted by the Lake Superior Reserve and FOLSR!

JUNE 10 & 13 (10:30 AM - 12 PM)
🔆Become a docent in the Lake Superior Estuarium. Interested individuals only need to attend one training at the Lake Superior Estuarium (3 Marina Drive, Superior, WI). Docents welcome visitors to the Lake Superior Estuarium, answer questions, and manage the building during open hours.

JULY 18 (9:30 AM - 12 PM)
🌱Help us pull non-local spotted knapweed from sections of WI Point as part of the Lake Superior Day weekend celebration. Volunteers will gather on Saturday, July 18th from 9:30am - 12:00pm at Lot #5 on WI Point for an introduction and disperse to pull spotted knapweed in sections where the plant is most prolific.

The weather is looking great for tomorrow's (5/9) beach cleanup at Wisconsin Point! Volunteers will meet at Lot #1 on Wisconsin Point Road at 9:30 am, then disperse to clean the beaches following a brief introduction from organizers.

The Lake Superior Estuarium will be closed on Saturday, May 2nd as staff prepare for the Everyone Can Bird event this weekend!

Come on out to Chambers Grove on Sunday, May 3 at 9:30 am to see some spring migrators, like pelicans! There will be both stationary and moving activities, including guided bird walks.

The Lake Superior Estuarium will be closed this Friday (3/13) due to the snow. The Estuarium will reopen next Friday (3/20) from 10 am to 2 pm. Stay safe everyone!

We're still thinking about lake sturgeon ever since the FOLSR annual meeting on February 10th. The keynote theme for the event was about sturgeon across the Great Lakes region, and what local organizations and agencies are doing to help their populations in the St. Louis River estuary. Thank you to everyone who attended the annual meeting, including Lake Superior Reserve staff and our amazing panelists Becky, Jay, and Dan!

Thank you also to Earth Rider Brewery , who generously donated some beverages for the event's social hour.

This new summer role will be lead staff in the Lake Superior Estuarium—a public exhibit hall with free admission that tells stories of the St. Louis River Estuary & Lake Superior. We're excited to expand the summer hours of the space with the help of this role!

The Lake Superior Estuarium is open tomorrow from 10 am to 2 pm!

Stop on by and learn more about the St. Louis River Estuary through the interactive displays, read children's books, or try out the first Saturday activity, which is a walking in snow experiment provided by the Lake Superior Reserve's education program!

Volunteering is just one of the ways to be a Friend of the Lake Superior Reserve!

There are plenty of volunteer opportunities with the FOLSR, including beach cleanups at Wisconsin Point, invasive species removal, counting birds for the annual Christmas Bird Count, and greeting visitors in the Lake Superior Estuarium, the interactive exhibit hall for the Lake Superior Reserve.

In 2025, 68 volunteers contributed 540 hours to FOLSR's various projects! Could you be one of those volunteers in 2026?
