Our Story

Thanks for your interest in our event. Our dates for the tournament are; April 18th and 19th, 2020 on the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus. We have several divisions, both boys/girls and men/women. Last year we had over 100 teams sign up and hope to eclipse that this year. We have a wonderful facility to use and couldn't be more excited to have UWS let us use their gym and field house. A little about Tony G. He was a 2001 graduate of Superior Senior High School. He was attending the University of Wisconsin-Superior when he was killed in a car accident near Sandstone, MN. Tony was a Legal Studies major at UWS, he was very charismatic and was someone that brought different groups of people together. He was also a great friend. When Tonys' parents came to us and told us they were going to be starting a scholarship at UWS, we gathered together and started The Tony G. 3 on 3 Memorial Basketball Tournament to raise money for the scholarship. The scholarship benefits a Junior or Senior whom is majoring in the same field that Tony was so close to finishing(Legal Studies). Tony passed away January 9, 2005, that year, in April we had our first tournament. Our first year we reached $10,000 to make it an permanent endowment at the University. Since then, we have more than doubled our total number of teams (from 42 our first year to 120last year) and raised over 4 times the amount we raised our first year. We are happy to use our success as a community event to help those who are involved with a program that Tony enjoyed so much(Legal Studies). This year, as in the past, our proceeds will go to benefit the Tony Gigliotti (Jill Lee ah Tee) Memorial Foundation Scholarship at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Our event brings basketball players both young and old, from all around to come and be apart of this community event. Our success as a community event has allowed us to partner with many area business and other events. We are also partnering with Don Leighton and Mike Granlund, aka, Lance Boyle and Billy Pirkola, of the Superior Telegram. Through their column, “Have Fun or Get Out of the Way", they are attempting to collect $20,000 and two tons of food for distribution in our area. The $20,000 will be presented to the Second Harvest Food Bank which gives a ten to one ration for received contributions. The $20,000 will become $200,000 and will provide over 100,000 meals to those in need in Superior and Douglas County. Any contribution in cash or food will be greatly appreciated. A table will be set up to accommodate your generosity. We as a group are excited for this years event. We are excited to bring so many people together for a community event.
