Refugee for 50 minutes: from Syria to Germany UWS is working in conjunction with the Red Cross to host an interactive exhibit to help educate community members and students about the refugee experience.

This is a FREE interactive exhibit that takes place on campus in February and November.

On behalf of my students in POLS 175, I cordially invite you to attend our Refugee for 50 Minutes Exhibit: From Afghanistan to Germany, which will be held on Nov. 18 from 9 am to 7 pm in the Yellowjacket Union Ballroom A. The exhibit is designed to teach members of our university and community about:

a. LEGAL DEFINITION OF REFUGEES: How does the international law define refugees?
a. REFUGEE LEGAL PROTECTIONS: What kinds of rights are we legally obligated to offer to refugees?
b. PUSH FACTORS: Why do refugees leave?
c. PULL FACTORS: Why do certain countries look more attractive than others to refugees?
d. REFUGEE EXPERIENCE: How do refugees travel thousands of miles (opportunities and threats)?
e. REFUGEE STATUS DETERMINATION: How are refugees recognized as refugees? and
f. REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT: What types of problems and prospects refugees face when they try to resettle?
