Jeff Hoehn, owner of JH Health & Fitness, Helps Clients Build Muscle

When South County Toastmaster Jeff Hoehn graduated from college, he began his career managing a gym. However, he quickly grew frustrated watching new members sign up with enthusiasm—only to stop coming and never achieve their fitness goals. Determined to make a greater impact, Jeff left his full-time role and became a personal trainer, dedicating himself to helping individuals stay accountable and transform their lives. He hasn’t looked back since.

Jeff joined South County Toastmasters in 2020 to enhance his communication skills. Through regular participation in meetings, he has strengthened his presentation abilities—an essential asset in his day-to-day work. Whether he’s coaching clients over Zoom, leading educational webinars, or interviewing experts for his podcast The Mind Muscle Connection, Jeff brings clarity, confidence, and connection to every conversation.

Jim Salih: Empowering Youth Through Leadership and Communication

Jim Salih has been a dedicated member of South County Toastmasters since 1993, actively contributing to the organization's mission of developing communication and leadership skills. Over the years, he has held multiple leadership positions at both the club and district levels, and has earned Toastmasters International’s highest honor — the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation.

Jim has found his true calling within Toastmasters through his work with the Youth Leadership Program, an eight-week course designed for students aged 13 to 17. This transformative program equips young people with essential skills in public speaking and leadership. Participants learn how to:
• Prepare and deliver structured speeches
• Use vocal variety and purposeful gestures
• Provide and receive constructive feedback
• Speak confidently in impromptu situations

Jim remains inspired by the growth he sees in his students, often witnessing shy and reserved individuals emerge from the program with newfound confidence and self-assurance.

The next Youth Leadership starts Tuesday, September 23, 2025 for 8 consecutive Tuesdays at the Sunset Hills Community Center from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Cost: free. South County Toastmaster JD Perper, Pursuing His Passions in Retirement

Most of us think that the life of a retiree is full of down time, but not for JD Perper. After retiring as a school teacher, he chose to fill his days and nights with music. JD has been a musician since childhood and now in retirement he plays the tuba or baritone in four different community bands, including the After Hours Community Band. JD has also assembled a sextet that puts on small holiday concerts. He also has a gig as a music teacher. His student of three years is now playing in some of the same community bands he belongs.

When he is not making music, he is preparing for his next speech in Toastmasters. JD is a talented storyteller and shares stories about his military service, being an Eagle Scout, his teaching career and being a Good Samaritan. He has also served in multiple officer roles at the club, including President.
