Pile Burning for the week of December 15th

The Deschutes National Forest / Bend-Fort Rock R.D. is planning to burn piles throughout the district this week. Areas where ignitions are likely include:

* West of Bend and above the Skyliners neighborhood in the Baloo Project area.
* West of Sunriver and La Pine in the 40, 42, 43, and 45 Road areas, from Pringle Butte to the Pistol Butte area, and along the 45 Road up towards Century Drive.
* East of Lava Butte and Sunriver in the Ewok and Rocket Project areas.
* South of Bend in the Cabin Butte Project area.
* Southeast of La Pine in the Finley Butte area.

Piles may smolder, burn, and produce smoke for several days after ignition. Once ignited, firefighters monitor piles until they are declared out. Please do not report ignitions.

Pile Burning West of Sunriver

The Newberry Division, Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District is planning to burn piles 6 - 8 miles west of Sunriver. Ignitions are planned north and south of the 45 Road, from south of Wanoga Butte to north of Pistol Butte. Ignitions will occur all week as conditions allow.

Firefighters select pile burning units for ignition based on moisture levels, forecasted weather and conditions predicted to move smoke away from communities where possible. Piles may smolder, burn, and produce smoke for several days after ignition. Once ignited, firefighters monitor piles until they are declared out. Please do not report ignitions.
