Today marks a significant milestone in our journey as a Fire Department. In November 2022 the voters accepted the petition to establish an Emergency Service District. We had presented several town hall meetings citing our vision of the future and it was our belief and position that the future of a pure volunteer department was going to be in jeopardy if we didn't act. Here we are in February 2026 and ESD #5 with Karl Wolfe as the President of the ESD Commissioners and Dan Gower as President of the VFD Board of Directors at the title company completing the transfer of property from the VFD to the ESD.

The Department is now a hybrid department with paid staff as well as volunteers. All vehicles and our station are now owned by the ESD (and the tax payers of ESD #5). We operate as a very cohesive and focused team, too.

Since inception the ESD has provided Rescue 51 - completely refurbished Rescue Pumper and will soon complete a full renovation of Station 51 to include 4 dormitory rooms, a new kitchen break room and meeting space as well as office space and climate controlled storage.

The taxpayers can be assured of response and a huge value return on their tax dollars.

Sunrise Beach-Llano County ESD 5 Fire Department and 9-10 other area fire departments, assisted in a 175 acre fire on Sunday, February 8. They took 3 brush trucks, the tender and 6 people. The fire was located in Blanco County off Althaus-Davis road. The fire was put out late Sunday afternoon. The number of fire departments assisting greatly reduced the number of acres affected by this fire. We thank everyone involved in this endeavor.

Tomorrow morning expect the roads to be far more ice that today. Treacherous. If you don't have to be on the roads - stay home.

In case you missed it. We can all do our part. If we all do a little, the grid will keep us warm.
From CTEC
We are reaching out to ask for your help in conserving energy during peak hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Your efforts will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability of our power system and helping to prevent potential outages during this high-demand period.

Reducing energy can help us avoid disruptions and ensure power can be restored more quickly if an outage does occur.

Here are a few simple ways you can help:

Delay Use of Major Appliances: Between the hours of 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Adjust Your Thermostat: Lower heating settings slightly to reduce energy consumption.

Turn Off Unnecessary Lights and Electronics: Switch off lights and unplug devices not in use.

Limit Space Heater Usage: Consider using extra layers or blankets instead of electric space heaters.
Every small action makes a difference, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
