Niles Canyon Railway is an operating railroad museum dedicated to preserving the equipment and experience of railroading in California's past along the route of the original Transcontinental Railroad right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our wintertime Train of Lights runs from the day after Thanksgiving through just before the New Year. Tickets for the Train of Lights are available in the Fall. For the full Train of Lights schedule and to purchase tickets go to http://ncry.org/.

The last of SP #2101's Dark Olive Green goes on tomorrow to complete the last vestibule that was not able to be done during the last painting blitz on the car. This will leave just some detailed painting, and lettering. We look forward to having the 2101 in all new paint for our upcoming Train of Lights.

The last chance to ride with us in 2026 is this Saturday, October 17th for our last diesel powered ride day of the season. We have tickets available for both our 10:30 and 1:00PM departures from our Sunol, CA station. Keeping up with our recent passenger car work, we poked our heads into Southern Pacific crane support car #7072 to find the crew that has been working on it had fresh paint on the floor! Awesome! They are chipping away at the interior and exterior restoration of this car from both a cosmetic and mechanical standpoint as its toilet is back in service as is its coal stove. A neat project on a car that will be used to support a variety of member events and more.

One vestibule to go! The unpainted vestibule of our Southern Pacific coach #2101 is ready for paint which it will receive soon. This will complete the repaint back to its original SP Dark Olive Green. All of the work on this project was supported by our generous donors, and we cannot thank them enough!

Priming! Our Yosemite Valley Railway Post Office car #107 has moved over to the tracks west of car shop to continue its restoration. The paint on the east end had been removed as a test and is now in the process of being sealed up with the rains we now are coming. Rust never sleeps and mold never dies... This car is going to see lots of work, and you can support its restoration via a donation. We will leave a link in the comments and more to come.

We had a piece of Bay Area radio history visit us today, the 610 KFRC Mobile Studio, 'The Sturgeon'. Its owners came for a ride on our railroad with one of our museum volunteers who was a former KFRC engineer that worked on The Sturgeon when it could be found all over the Bay Area broadcasting.
