**OUR BEAUTIFUL PIEBALD, ALICE, IS IN HER FOREVER HOME!

As we fully expected, Alice's foster was a foster fail! Right from the beginning, Susy, our foster fell in love, as did Alice's new Weim brother, Doug. Doug was adopted from NCWR in 2020.

Alice heads to work with Mom & Doug daily, and has plenty of other dogs and land to run around on there.

We thank all of you so much for your generous donations towards Alice's care. She has been on antibiotics for her tick diseases, getting her bloodwork, and it's looking really good! Once the vet loves the blood results, she will get her dental care, and then spayed. She is in a wonderful home, where she is getting all the love and attention she needs. Making up for the lost time! Thank you Susy & Doug for making her a big part of your family!

** HAPPY ENDING TO AUGUST!

What a great way to end August! Both ODIN & ALICE have found their forever families! (Now let's just hope for some cooler weather!). FIRST we have ODIN'S story from his foster home, then we will feature ALICE on a separate post!

We need to give a huge THANK YOU to Greg and family for taking such great care of Odin, and sending us great updates on him!

"After a few weeks with us, Odin officially has a home! His new family absolutely fell in love with him and decided he wasn’t going anywhere. Seeing how comfortable and loved he already was made saying goodbye a whole lot easier.

Of course, our 3 year old made sure we didn’t get too sentimental. As we were loading him into the car, she came out to say goodbye and told him:

“Now you can go to your new home and p*e on other people’s stuff.” 😂

And with that, Odin was off to his next chapter.

We’re going to miss this big, goofy guy, but fostering him was absolutely worth it. One homeless dog off and into a family that loves him.

Happy tails, Odin. You did good, buddy."

🌈 Today, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we’re thinking of the Weimaraners and other beloved dogs who are no longer beside us, but who will always be part of our lives.

Over the years, so many special dogs have passed through Northern California Weimaraner Rescue. Some came to us needing a fresh start, some found the families they were meant for, and some became unforgettable parts of our own rescue family along the way.

Today is for remembering all of them. 💙

For those who don’t know me, I’m Rachel Vitorelo, and I’m honored to be serving as the new President of Northern California Weimaraner Rescue. I’ve been involved with NCWR for many years as both a board member and Shelter Intake Coordinator, and I’m excited for this next chapter.

I’m fortunate to follow Shiffra, whose years of dedication and knowledge have helped make NCWR what it is today, as well as our late President, Michael, whose commitment to the rescue and the breed left a lasting impact. I’m grateful for everything they have given to NCWR and proud to carry that work forward.

As we look ahead, our greatest need is the recruitment of some key volunteers to help processing new Weimaraners, supporting our amazing foster families, and placing Weimaraners in their forever homes. If you are interested in hearing more about any of these rewarding opportunities, please send us an email at [email protected]

Other opportunities include helping with fundraising efforts and getting your “Weim fix” by fostering or transporting our gray friends. Whatever your talents, there is a place for you in NCWR. Odin’s Foster Update: One Week In

It’s been about a week since Odin arrived, and we’re starting to get a much better picture of who this handsome guy really is.

First, he’s definitely making himself at home. When Odin arrived, he looked a little haggard. We initially assumed his weary expression was simply part of being an older dude, but over the last week, that look has started to disappear. Maybe it was stress. Maybe he just needed a soft place to land. Either way, he looks younger, happier and more relaxed every day.

Second, he’s kind of a coward. 😂

His foster sisters will charge the fence to enthusiastically investigate anyone who walks by. Odin? Odin retreats to the other side of the property to safely assess the situation from a distance. Anything potentially abnormal requires careful evaluation.

And Odin’s definition of “abnormal” appears to be…everything.

Third, he’s a leaner. If you’re standing around talking, Odin will quietly wander over and lean his entire body against you. He genuinely seems to love being close to people and will happily soak up whatever affection is available.

Fourth, he’s apparently a counter surfer.

My wife called while I was running errands this week and asked:

“Did you eat four pancakes off the counter?”

Now, I enjoy a good pancake as much as the next guy, but I had not eaten four pancakes off the counter.

After a brief investigation, suspicion fell heavily upon Odin, who was nearby looking innocent and had suspiciously sweet breath.

Case closed.

Finally, we were asked for some action shots of Odin.

Unfortunately, this is about as much action as we’ve been able to capture.

He is a bona fide couch potato. Like… The Dude, might actually be his spirit animal.

So if your idea of the perfect Weimaraner is a handsome, affectionate, slightly suspicious, pancake-stealing older gentleman who would love nothing more than to sit next to you and talk about how that rug really brings the room together…

Odin might be your guy.

***ODIN IS STILL AVAILABLE! We are looking for a home where He is not left alone all day. Odin loves his people! Another, non dominant canine friend in the home would be perfect for him! More photos are going to be posted soon!

ODIN!! 🥰 IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! We are so excited to share the great report from Odin's foster dad just one day after arriving at the home. He is ready for his new forever family! He's a great age...7 1/2, and a tall boy!
Says his foster dad:

"After his first day in foster care, we’re happy to report that this handsome 8-year-old Weimaraner is settling in well.

Odin is a big, curious, gentle giant who’s been wonderful with our 3-year-old, 8-year-old, other dogs, and even our cat. Outside, he loves exploring and sniffing with his canine foster siblings.

He’s also a little cautious and seems a bit lost at times, often looking around as if he’s searching for his people. Despite that, he’s incredibly sweet, gentle, and trusting.

He’s still adjusting to crate time, but settles down after a few minutes and sleeps through the night. He’s got some bad pulling habits on leash and we’re working on that with him too.

So far, Odin has been an absolute gentleman, and we can’t wait to see him find the forever family he’s been looking for."

**A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HELPED ALICE! NCWR has raised enough for all her care! Alice has been adopted by her foster home, and everyone loves her. Once her bloodwork is back to normal, she will have two surgeries, one for dental, and then spayed. We truly appreciate all of your generous donations!🥰

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP US, HELP ALICE?

If you have been following us, we recently asked for transport for ALICE, a sweet 7 year old female Piebald Weimaraner that was found stray near Fresno.

NCWR always strives for the best care for the dogs we take in. With any dog found stray, we immediately get them into a vet for a thorough exam and tests. When there is no medical history, we need to know what they need before they go to homes to keep everyone safe.

ALICE was no different. We got her in to our vet right away in Turlock. We have gotten her tests back, and found she has two tick borne diseases, ehrlichiosis, and anaplasmosis. Fortunately they feel it was caught early. She will need a month long course of antibiotics, and blood tests will need to be repeated every 2 weeks for about 8 weeks.

In addition, she needs a dental, and more than likely has two teeth that need to be extracted. There is an infection and the antibiotic for the tick diseases should keep that at bay until she is well enough to have the dental. It is important for her blood tests to start coming back normal before any surgery. Once she gets through that, a few weeks later, she will need to be spayed. Most vets will not do a dental and spay at the same time because of risk of bacteria.

The good news is that Alice is not acting sick. She is in her foster home, doing great, and a Weim brother, Doug, who was adopted from us in 2020. During the day she goes to her new mom's work with Doug and hangs out, so she is never alone. Alice LOVES playing ball, but is a chewer, which is probably how she ended up with the dental issues.

We would be most grateful if you could help contribute towards her care. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for anything you can do!!! Her total care will be about $5000.00 which includes her initial vet appointment for exam and several tests. Any amount we can raise will help us get Alice the care she deserves, and prepare us for other dogs that will come in. Donations can be made at:

WANTED! A great home for ODIN!

Odin is our 7 1/2 year old boy who is ready for his new family. He's a big guy...but solid muscle. Odin is good with other non-dominant dogs. In fact a friend in the home would be good for him since he's energetic and loves to play. He is super sweet and loves his people.

He also would do best in a home where is he not left alone for long periods although another dog may help. Older human kids are ok.

If you might be interested, consider filling out our Adoption Application or message us with any questions. He is currently in Redwood City with our trainer, but will be moved on Wed. to our foster in Napa.
