On June 1, 2026, new CalFresh eligibility requirements took effect, affecting some of the most vulnerable people in our community. As a result, these changes will make it harder for many to access food assistance. Now more than ever, the support of our donors and volunteers is essential. Together, we can help ensure that no one in our community goes without food during times of uncertainty.

This is our friend Dan Sievert Golden Missions of America. He is known for traveling across the country alongside his Golden Retriever, Cooper, bringing comfort and connection to survivors of traumatic events. Over the past several years, we have supported him while he was recovering from multiple surgeries.

Recently, Dan shared this message with our team:

“I would like to show my appreciation for Helping Hands of Silicon Valley. All the volunteers have been there for me since August 2021 when I had a medical emergency in the area. Meals and necessities were freely given. For 5 years all the kind people connected with Helping Hands have supported me through more surgery recovery; bringing me groceries and meals. I truly hope more people can volunteer their time to help the wonderful organization. Keep helping others!”

What makes Dan’s story especially powerful is that even while facing his own challenges, he continues dedicating his time to helping others through difficult moments.

It is a reminder that making a difference is often simply about showing up for people, and that kindness can create a ripple effect, with compassion shared with others eventually coming back around when it’s needed most.

We are grateful for Dan's kind words and thankful to all of our volunteers and supporters who continue showing up for our community every day.

Access to nutritious food is something many people take for granted, but for individuals experiencing homelessness, healthy meals can be difficult to obtain.

Without refrigeration, cooking equipment, or safe storage, even those who can afford food often rely on expensive convenience foods that lack essential nutrients. Poor nutrition can affect physical and mental health, reduce energy levels, and make it harder to maintain employment or attend important appointments.

At Helping Hands Silicon Valley, we work alongside our unhoused neighbors to provide nourishing meals and connect them with essential resources that support health, dignity, and stability.

Everyone deserves access to nutritious food.

Many people experiencing homelessness struggle to keep and access important personal documents.

IDs, birth certificates, Social Security cards, medical records, and other essential paperwork can easily be lost, stolen, or damaged by weather and unsafe living conditions. Without a permanent address, replacing these documents can become extremely difficult.

Without these records, everyday tasks become major obstacles, including:
• applying for jobs
• securing housing
• accessing healthcare and benefits
• opening bank accounts

At Helping Hands Silicon Valley, we support our unhoused neighbors by helping them replace vital documents and reconnect to opportunities that support long-term stability.

Something as small as an ID can be the first step toward rebuilding a life.

Homelessness does not always mean unemployment.

Many unhoused people are working—sometimes full time—yet still cannot afford a stable place to live.

Homelessness is not always about lack of effort. Often, it is about wages that do not match rent, sudden crises, high deposits, limited support, and systems that are difficult to navigate alone.

At Helping Hands Silicon Valley, we walk alongside our unhoused and housing-insecure neighbors with practical support, advocacy, and consistent follow-up—because stability is the first step toward self-sufficiency.

Five years ago, we started with a simple idea: just show up.

Show up with food.
Show up with essential supplies.
Show up with care.

No missed service days—just consistency.

Five years later, that commitment continues. Every Saturday, volunteers come together to support our neighbors in need, providing meals, essential supplies,
and ongoing support.

This is what steady, collective effort looks like.

Thank you to our volunteers, donors, and supporters for making this work possible.

The need continues—and so do we.
