Troop 405

Scouts BSA Troop 405 of Sunnyvale brings all youth together for scouting adventures. Troop 405 meets most Sunday evenings at 6pm. All are welcome.

Trained adults ensure safety and support for the troop's year-round program.

"Train 'em, trust 'em, let 'em lead."

In a scout-led troop there are many opportunities for young people to gain leadership practice. This Sunday, Troop 405 Scouts will elect their next Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) as well as patrol leaders and other troop roles, all of whom serve for six months. Also twice a year, Scouts gather to learn about specific leadership roles and develop skills needed to lead effectively, such as goal setting, fostering teamwork, and teaching. And in between, patrols work as teams to organize troop meeting activities, and individual Scouts take charge of monthly outings.

No troop meeting tonight. Instead patrols will gather in their chosen locations to bond and plan activities.

Troop 405 continues to be committed to offering a scout-led, year-round program to all youth (age 11-17) who want to explore the outdoors, further their skills, and have adventures together.

Bear Paw 2026 was one for the record books. Fifteen Scouts and five adults from Troop 405 carved out a campsite in the deep powdery snow last weekend and all spent two nights camping in freezing temps. There were snow cones, snow play and sledding, games, and plenty of warm food. A few Scouts even got to sleep inside snow huts (pictured). What a memorable scouting adventure!

Scouts in Troop 405 always find new ways to have an adventure. For the troop's campout on Angel Island, the Scout in Charge decided they would take the train (instead of being driven) and walk to the ferry building before backpacking to their campsite upon reaching the island. This sunset hike view of the Golden Gate is a wonderful end to their travel day.

Troop 405 Scouts are gearing up for one of their favorite outings of the year: the Cardboard Box Campout! This year we'll be joined by Cub Scout AOLs and other youth interested in our troop (grades 6 and up, with a parent) for a creatively constructive AOL Invitational. Contact us to learn about this and other scouting adventures in our all gender troop.

Twice a year we gather for a celebration of troop achievements. There’s a delicious potluck and then a special ceremony emceed by our SPL. This fall Troop 405 recognized all those who advanced in rank, earned merit badges, or completed the prestigious Triple Crown for high adventure outings.

Such events remind us to honor the many ways a Scout can and does live the Scout Oath and Law. Congratulations Scouts (and Scouters)! on your achievements.

Scouts from Troop 405 made the most of their time at the coast this past weekend with day and night hikes, beach cleanup, a warm campfire, and fellowship. We're grateful to the adult leaders who make such outings possible by serving as drivers and ensuring youth safety.

Outings bring smiles. Last month Troop 405 Scouts got to experience the excitement of class IV rapids up in California's Gold Country. This whitewater rafting trip is one of many fun and adventurous campouts our troop plans each year.
