These are the two 8.6BLK rifles that get used most by the Discreet Ballistics product development team (me).

Hunting Setup: Q Fix with early production 12" 1:3t barrel. SD fore-end from .detroit. Swarovski Z8i 1-8x24. OCL Hydrogen S silencer. Weight as seen (unloaded): 9.0LBS. This rifle is a pleasure to pack around the Black Hills of Wyoming and is quite versatile with subs and supers. Many deer, elk, antelope, coyotes, and turkeys have been successfully taken with it. The furthest successful kill with it was at 227yds on a mule deer buck using 280gr Selous Expanders.

Target Setup: Aero Precision Solus action in a Grey Birch MFG Chassis with a carbon wrapped 10" 1:3 twist barrel. Optic currently mounted is an Element Titan 3-18 with 43.6 MRAD of adjustment which is useful when dialing in subsonics at relative distance. Weight as seen (unloaded) 11.8LBS. This rifle makes tired old Wyoming ranchers giggle like school girls. If they do their part, ringing steel at 500yds and beyond is possible with our 280gr Recce.

Had a buddy run some of our subsonic 121gr 9mm out of his border special 1911. Even with the lower subsonic powder charge, all rounds functioned great. His 10rd group was tight and so was the SD. Recoil was noticeably lighter than the 147gr he's been carrying.

A fixed power prism scope like this 5X Burris is a great option for the Q Boombox. With the simple mil subtensions you're covered out to 150yds with a 50yd zero using 280gr 8.6BLK. It's a useful setup for daytime hunting with a semi-automatic at common subsonic distances.

When 308Win was developed by Wi******er in 1952 the last thing the brain trust in New Haven was thinking about was subsonic performance.

Flash forward 74 years and customer Drew is using our subsonic 155gr Selous expander loaded in 308Win to take an axis buck at 105yds.

From a badass customer who's been loading our 188gr 300BLK expanders for a while now. He just built a new shorty AR and wanted to share his initial results at 50yds. Keeping the 188gr Selous around 1000fps at the muzzle seems to work well for a wide variety of barrel lengths and twist rates.

And before the inevitable "that's just 50yds, what about 100yds?", Here's something else to consider: most guys keep subs 50yds and in for hogs, deer, yotes, etc. That doesn't mean they can't shoot the 188gr beyond that, it just means they're able to close the gap better. The 188gr is capable of 1-2 MOA or better 5-shot groups at 100yds which is exceptional for subsonic hunting work.
