Susquehanna River Cleanup Project

Susquehanna River Cleanup Project The SRCP needs your help in continuing to protect the Susquehanna River. Join us or any cleanup project in the Susquehanna or Chesapeake Bay Watersheds!

A non-profit community and volunteer-centered organization based in the central Susquehanna River Valley with the mission of cleaning debris and litter from the shores of the Susquehanna! The Susquehanna has been named several times as a "most endangered river", and although we may not be able to personally remove chemicals and contaminants from our beloved river, we can remove garbage and debris that continues to get hung up on our shores before making its way to the Chesapeake Bay.

The forecast for this week looks like it’s going to be great weather for outdoor activities! Check out Penn’s Tavern Restaurant, Rt 147 Sunbury for great specials and live music. Being a business right along the Susquehanna River, they are proud sponsors of our event because they know the importance of keeping our river clean and healthy.

A historical waterfront restaurant, located on the Susquehanna River, offers traditional German dishes and American cuisine of steaks, seafood, and pasta

One month ago, it was a cold, rainy, miserable morning, but that didn't stop 200 of our volunteers from venturing out for two hours to ensure we retrieved as much litter as possible from the river and its surroundings. We will continue our efforts throughout the year, so stay tuned for other opportunities to join a cleanup.

Whether we're hitting the water or hitting the trails for a cleanup, one thing is certain: Weis Markets keeps us moving! 🛥️
We are incredibly grateful for their continued partnership. Because of their support, we’re able to:
⛽️ Fuel our boaters and trash retrievers with gas gift cards for our events.
🥪 Fuel our volunteers with food to keep the energy high during cleanups and educational programs.
It’s more than just a donation—it’s an investment in a cleaner, more educated community. Next time you’re at Weis, know that you’re supporting a team that supports our local waters!

2026 Spring cleanup is in the books as a bigger success than expected! Despite the weather, we still had an amazing 175 volunteers show up! We had 30 volunteers take to the islands and 5 boaters who braved the strong current to fill a dumpster with the trash collected. Without them , all of that would still be out there. For all of our land crews, you covered so much ground around the river and tributaries which was all saved from eventually making its way into the river.

We have many sponsors to thank from monetary donations to in-kind. We will be making special posts for them throughout the week.

For now, check out some of the photos that have been shared and let’s continue to make this more than a one day event.

We’ve had volunteers out all week . Our 405 crew did some damage last weekend between The Fence and May’s Drive-In. Yesterday, the Feese Family finished cleaning up around the the Chillisquaque Boat Launch and were then treated to ice cream, compliments of May’s. The Dziadosz family did their part for the 5year milestone. We love seeing families make this a tradition. Can’t wait to see more results today!

Good morning. Yes, it is, despite the weather. We will make the best of it. According to the latest radar forecast, 10 looks like the safest time. Don't cancel, just delay. If you are a rain warrior, by all means, start at 9, but for more pleasant results, start at 10.

Our event is on! I'm going to bet on the meteorologist from WNEP. His forecast shows the system moving out by 8a.m. I have options for some groups to clean up tomorrow. This would be for land only and for those who are familiar with your territory. IF you are registered, please click on the link in the comments. Looking forward to another great cleanup!

Kicking off our big month of cleanups was 5Star School in Sunbury! Their morning started with learning about the negative impacts that litter has on our environment. Then students and staff ventured out in the neighborhood! Along the way, they left positive messages by laying painted rocks. Afterwards, they enjoyed a well-deserved treat!
