Well folks, our annual appeal hit inboxes today, which means fundraising season is officially underway! We got things rolling last week with our annual Invest in Your Trails Fundraiser at CK’s Real Food.

It was a lovely Sunday evening spent with some of our favorite trail supporters, and together we raised $115,000! Even better, that unlocked an additional $25,000 challenge, bringing the event total to $140,000 to help us create, maintain, and sustain your trails!

Now it’s the community’s turn! We’re asking you to help us build on that incredible start by making a year-end donation toward our overall goal of $250,000. With $140,000 already in the books, we’ve got some great momentum and we’re counting on this community to help carry it across the finish line!

Bueno, amigos, nuestra campaña anual ha llegado hoy a vuestros buzones de correo, ¡lo que significa que la temporada de recaudación de fondos ya está oficialmente en marcha! La semana pasada dimos el pistoletazo de salida con nuestra campaña anual de recaudación de fondos «Invest in Your Trails» en CK’s Real Food.

Fue una tarde de domingo estupenda que pasamos con algunos de nuestros seguidores favoritos de los senderos, ¡y juntos recaudamos 115 000 dólares! Y lo que es aún mejor, eso desbloqueó un reto adicional de 25 000 dólares, lo que eleva el total del evento a 140 000 dólares para ayudarnos a crear, mantener y conservar vuestros senderos.

¡Ahora le toca el turno a la comunidad! Os pedimos que nos ayudéis a aprovechar este increíble comienzo haciendo una donación de fin de año para alcanzar nuestro objetivo global de 250.000 dólares. Cooler temperatures, shorter days, and changing weather can bring challenges for anyone heading into the Sawtooth National Recreation Area this fall. Here are two ways you can keep yourself safe and the Sawtooth NRA accessible for all.

Put warming fires out cold.

A small fire might take the chill off on a cold morning, but it can also spark a wildfire if it is left without feeling for heat. Even after cooler weather and rain, vegetation can dry out quickly on a sunny day. Before building a fire, check current fire restrictions and make sure you have enough water to extinguish it completely. Drown, stir, and feel for heat - then repeat. Never leave until everything is cold to the touch.

Know road conditions before you go.

Fall rain and snow can leave dirt roads soft, muddy, and difficult to travel. Driving through wet, soft sections creates ruts that worsen road conditions for everyone and can contribute to long term damage and erosion. You could also end up stuck miles from help. Check weather forecasts and current road conditions before leaving, respect closures, and be prepared to turn around if conditions deteriorate.

Our LAST volunteer event of the season is THIS SATURDAY! We're going to be seeding the Fox Creek trail, up to the bridge site. With all of the mositure in the forecast for the week, it should be the perfect time to get this project done.

Saturday looks to be the sunny break in the line up of potential storms, so it'll be the ideal day to hit the trail to give back.

If you've been enjoying the trails this season, and want to show your gratitude for all of the memories they have created for you, come help us rehab the Fox Creek trail!

¡Nuestro ÚLTIMO evento de voluntariado de la temporada es ESTE SÁBADO! Vamos a sembrar el sendero de Fox Creek, hasta la zona del puente. Con toda la humedad que se prevé para esta semana, debería ser el momento perfecto para llevar a cabo este proyecto.

El sábado parece que será un día soleado entre una serie de posibles tormentas, así que será el día ideal para salir al sendero y aportar nuestro granito de arena.

Check out the repurposing of the old Fox Creek Bridge happening at Croy! Just after you leave the trailhead, there is a small seasonal wash that you need to cross. Previously, there were two small boards that spanned the little wash.

Well, even though the old Fox Creek Bridge wasn't suited for the Fox Creek site, or even as a bridge anymore, it can for sure span this wash.

While this may be a mini-project compared to some of the other things the crew has tackled, it is a great way to keep the old bridge out of the landfill, while improving another trail.

¡Echa un vistazo a la reconversión del antiguo puente de Fox Creek que se está llevando a cabo en Croy! Justo después de salir del punto de partida del sendero, hay un pequeño cauce estacional que hay que cruzar. Antes, había dos tablones pequeños que cruzaban ese pequeño cauce.

Pues bien, aunque el antiguo puente de Fox Creek no era adecuado para el emplazamiento de Fox Creek, ni siquiera ya servía como puente, sin duda puede atravesar este cauce.

Aunque pueda parecer un miniproyecto en comparación con otras tareas que ha abordado el equipo, es una forma estupenda de evitar que el viejo puente acabe en el vertedero, al tiempo que se mejora otro sendero.

Congratulations to the winner of our bike raffle, Cory Bates!!

Cory has been wanting to get into the gravel-grinding craze, after moving up to Hailey from the Twin Falls area. He's stoked to have a new ride to explore the area with!

Congratulations Cory, and thank you for buying some raffle tickets! We are so so so grateful for everyone who bought raffle tickets. Your support of our bike raffle goes directly to building, maintaining, and sustaining the trails of the Wood River Valley for all users. So, while not everyone wins a new bike, you can consider our world-class trail system a pretty darn amazing consolation prize!

Most of the time, you'll find us working on the Ketchum Ranger District. But in addition to our work on the KRD, we like to work on projects on neighboring districts. This summer we headed into the SNRA to help rebuild a section of the North Fork West Pass Trail.

We kicked things off during our Women in the Wild Weekend with Idaho Trails Association, brought another volunteer crew out, and most recently sent our Board out with the Hybrid Trail Crew for round three.

The goal? Reroute a steep, challenging section of trail and turn a rough mountainside into something sustainable, durable, and actually enjoyable to hike.

That meant a LOT of digging. A LOT of dirt moving. And a truly impressive amount of chatter and laughter. Each crew built on the work of the one before it, and after dozens of hours from staff and volunteers, this section is starting to look a ton better.

La mayor parte del tiempo, los equipos de WRTC trabajan en el Distrito Forestal de Ketchum. Pero este verano cruzamos los límites del distrito y nos adentramos en la SNRA para ayudar a reconstruir un tramo del sendero North Fork West Pass Trail.

Dimos el pistoletazo de salida durante nuestro fin de semana «Women in the Wild» con la Idaho Trails Association, llevamos a otro equipo de voluntarios y, más recientemente, enviamos a nuestra junta directiva junto con el Hybrid Trail Crew para la tercera ronda.

¿El objetivo? Desviar el trazado de un tramo empinado y exigente del sendero y convertir una ladera escarpada en algo sostenible, duradero y realmente agradable para recorrer.

Eso supuso MUCHO trabajo de excavación. MUCHO movimiento de tierra. Y una cantidad realmente impresionante de charlas y risas. Cada equipo se basó en el trabajo del anterior y, tras docenas de horas de trabajo por parte del personal y los voluntarios, este tramo está empezando a tener mucho mejor aspecto.

That’s a wrap on the 2026 SNRA Clean Up!

This year, 30 volunteers put in a combined 194.5 hours helping clean up the Sawtooth National Recreation Area — and they were not messing around.

Together, volunteers:

Packed out 25 bags of garbage
Cleaned, dismantled, or naturalized 74 fire rings
Addressed 50 human waste issues
Rehabilitated 65 campsites

That’s twice as many human waste issues addressed as last year and 20 more campsites rehabilitated. Not exactly glamorous work, but it makes a huge difference in keeping these places clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

And the garbage? Well… there was the usual assortment of cans, bottles, wrappers, microtrash, toilet paper, and fire-pit debris. But volunteers also found some truly random treasures: a rug, a pair of flip flops, a full diaper, a broken camp chair, a piece of a car, a wasp catcher, two arrows, and more than 300 spent cartridges and sh***un shells. One volunteer even hauled a large piece of sheet metal out of the Salmon River.

And with that, the 2026 SNRA Clean Up is officially in the books. Until next year!

¡Ya ha terminado la campaña de limpieza de la SNRA de 2026!

Este año, 30 voluntarios dedicaron un total de 194,5 horas a ayudar a limpiar el Área Recreativa Nacional de Sawtooth, y se lo tomaron muy en serio.

En conjunto, los voluntarios:

Recogieron 25 bolsas de basura
Limpiaron, desmontaron o reintegraron al entorno natural 74 fogones
Resolvieron 50 casos de residuos humanos
Rehabilitaron 65 zonas de acampada

Eso supone el doble de casos de residuos humanos resueltos que el año pasado y 20 zonas de acampada más rehabilitadas. No es precisamente un trabajo glamuroso, pero marca una gran diferencia a la hora de mantener estos lugares limpios, seguros y acogedores para todos.

¿Y la basura? Bueno… había la mezcla habitual de latas, botellas, envoltorios, microbasura, papel higiénico y restos de las fogatas. Pero los voluntarios también encontraron algunos tesoros realmente insólitos: una alfombra, un par de chanclas, un pañal lleno, una silla de camping rota, una pieza de coche, un atrapaavispas, dos flechas y más de 300 cartuchos usados y balas de escopeta.
