If you've ever walked along the Lane's Trail, you may have noticed that there are three footbridges along it. The first one is by the interseciton with Porkchop, the next one is just past the picnic table, and the third one is just before the junction with Citizen's Trail.

That kind of trail infrastructure takes maintenance! The second bridge on the trail (up by the picnic table) had reached its lifespan. There was a cracked stringer on the outside edge of the bridge, making it unstable.

Over the last two weeks the trail crew carried out all of the supplies to build a new bridge, created a new foundation, installed the new stringers, and had a pack team bring up the decking boards!

If you've been out on Lane's recently, did you run into the crew? Did you notice the other bridges on the Lane's trail even more, once you saw the one under construction?

We can take trail infrasturcture like bridges, signs, and even a nice wide walkway for granted, but it all take lots and lots of maintenance. Luckily, the Hybrid Trail Crew is up to the task!

Si alguna vez has paseado por el Lane's Trail, quizá hayas notado que hay tres pasarelas a lo largo del recorrido. La primera está junto al cruce con Porkchop, la siguiente está justo después de la mesa de picnic y la tercera, justo antes del cruce con el Citizen's Trail.

¡Este tipo de infraestructura de senderos requiere mantenimiento! El segundo puente del sendero (junto a la mesa de picnic) había llegado al final de su vida útil. Había un larguero agrietado en el borde exterior del puente, lo que lo hacía inestable.

Durante las últimas dos semanas, el equipo de mantenimiento del sendero transportó todo el material necesario para construir un nuevo puente, creó unos cimientos nuevos, instaló los nuevos largueros y contó con un equipo de porteadores para subir las tablas del tablero.

We had a great turnout of 10 awesome folks on August 27th who gathered at the lower portion of Curly’s to install a check step and crush and fill above it. This was part of an ongoing project to install checks in the lower, cupped section of Curly’s. The work we did added on to previous checks installed earlier this season as well as last year.

Check steps serve to slow down water runoff and provide erosion control, something much needed on this steep, well-used trail. We completed the project super quickly, and with such a large number of volunteers were also able to clear and maintain 15 drains going further up the trail as the sun began to set in gorgeous smoky skies. Curly’s is one of the most loved trails in the valley and it’s so gratifying to tackle its drainage issues with passionate volunteers!

El 27 de agosto contamos con una gran participación de 10 personas estupendas que se reunieron en la parte baja de Curly’s para instalar un escalón de contención y apisonar y rellenar el terreno por encima de él. Esto formaba parte de un proyecto en curso para instalar escalones de contención en la sección inferior y cóncava de Curly’s. El trabajo que realizamos se sumó a los escalones de contención instalados anteriormente esta temporada, así como el año pasado.

Los escalones de contención sirven para ralentizar la escorrentía del agua y controlar la erosión, algo muy necesario en este sendero empinado y muy transitado. Completamos el proyecto en muy poco tiempo y, gracias al gran número de voluntarios, también pudimos limpiar y mantener 15 desagües situados más arriba en el sendero, mientras el sol comenzaba a ponerse en un precioso cielo ahumado. ¡Curly’s es uno de los senderos más queridos del valle y es muy gratificante abordar sus problemas de drenaje con voluntarios tan apasionados!

The new Quigley-Hangman Connector got a fresh rake out by WRTC, BCRD and BLM staff this week. Newly constructed trails in this type of terrain have a habit of filling with rocks for the first few years, so they need more maintenance during that timeframe. The before and after shots really tell the tale of how many rocks!

The WRTC, BCRD (The BCRD) and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) collaborate to build and maintain the trails in the Quigley Canyon area. It is a great example of how public-private partnerships bring organizations and agencies together around a common goal, this one being trails! Thank you to our friends at the BCRD and BLM for helping us bring great trails to the Hailey community. 💥✨

El nuevo enlace Quigley-Hangman ha sido limpiado a fondo esta semana por el personal de WRTC, BCRD y BLM. Los senderos recién construidos en este tipo de terreno suelen llenarse de piedras durante los primeros años, por lo que necesitan un mayor mantenimiento durante ese periodo. ¡Las fotos del antes y el después dejan muy claro la cantidad de piedras que había!

Have you been out to the Buckhorn Trail? One of the more off-the-beaten-path trails on the whole Ketchum Ranger District, the Buckhorn Trail can get a little forgotten.

This year, the crew set out to change that! After a six-day hitch out on the Buckhorn Trail, things are looking much better. From clearing trees to some serious trail brushing, with small infrastructure projects (and plenty of trail shennanigans) in between, the Buckhorn Trail is waiting for you to go and explore!

The Community School Mountain Bike Team crushed it (literally!!) last Thursday on the Curly's Trail!

They joined us on a beautiful morning to build a check step in a badly cupped section of trail. We were impressed with how much we were able to get done with the small-but mighty crew. We were extra stoked by the giant rocks the crew was able to move, making the project quicker. ⚡💪💥

¡El equipo de bicicleta de montaña de la Escuela Comunitaria lo dio todo (¡literalmente!) el pasado jueves en el sendero Curly's Trail!

Se unieron a nosotros en una mañana preciosa para construir un escalón de control en un tramo del sendero que presentaba un fuerte hundimiento. Nos impresionó lo mucho que pudimos avanzar con un equipo pequeño pero muy eficaz. Nos entusiasmaron especialmente las rocas gigantes que el equipo consiguió mover, lo que agilizó el proyecto.⚡💪💥

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for: The WRTC Trail Monitoring Program Mid Season Round Up! This time of year, we share with you all a representation of trail use across the Wood River Valley for the 2026 season so far. Keep in mind that these totals represent the number of detections the counters collected but not necessarily individual users (if someone were to travel out and back on a trail they would be counted twice). In other words, the following data is a general representation of trail activity and not an exact count of trail users.

So far this season, the top 5 locations with the highest daily averages for trail counter detections were:
⚡ Fox Creek
⚡Greenhorn
⚡ Hang Tight/Hang Loose
⚡ Old Adam’s Gulch Road
⚡ Silver Lining

One thing that stood out to us was that the busiest time on the trails is 11AM!

We’re stoked to see so many people getting out this year, and can’t wait to see what the data tells us about the trail season as a whole at the end of the year!

Let’s talk fundraising!

A project like Fox Creek comes together from a lot of different funding sources—and sometimes, the timeline doesn’t go quite as planned!

Thanks to an unexpectedly mellow runoff, we were able to complete the Fox Creek Bridge project months ahead of schedule. Most of our funders rolled with the change, but one didn’t, leaving us $30,000 short of our goal. (We were awarded the grant but had to decline it because the work happened so much earlier than anticipated).

Thanks to our generous community, we’ve already made up $20,000 of that gap.

That leaves just $10,000 to go!

If you meant to give to the Fox Creek Bridge project but never got around to it, now’s your chance to help us cross the finish line.

¡Hablemos de la recaudación de fondos!

Un proyecto como el de Fox Creek se financia gracias a muchas fuentes diferentes, y a veces el calendario no sale exactamente como estaba previsto.

Gracias a una crecida inesperadamente moderada, pudimos completar el proyecto del puente de Fox Creek meses antes de lo previsto. La mayoría de nuestros financiadores se adaptaron al cambio, pero uno no lo hizo, lo que nos dejó con un déficit de 30 000 dólares respecto a nuestro objetivo. (Nos concedieron la subvención, pero tuvimos que rechazarla porque las obras se completaron mucho antes de lo previsto).

We were thrilled to have 16 members of the Wood River Mountain Bike Team join us on Corral Creek Trail for an evening of much-needed brushing and raking. Together, the group covered .76 miles of trail, clearing back vegetation and tidying up the tread to keep this popular trail in great shape.

Corral Creek is a favorite riding destination in the valley, which meant the crew got plenty of feedback while they worked. As riders passed by, many stopped to say thank you and show their appreciation for the work happening on the trail. For the volunteers, it was a pretty great reminder that the work they were doing was having an immediate impact on the people using the trail.

A huge thank you to the entire Wood River Mountain Bike Team for showing up, working hard, and helping take care of one of the valley's most-loved trails. Your time and energy make a real difference, and we're so grateful to have you as part of our trail community.

Nos encantó que 16 miembros del equipo de ciclismo de montaña de Wood River se unieran a nosotros en el sendero de Corral Creek para pasar una tarde dedicada a la tan necesaria limpieza y rastrillado. Juntos, el grupo recorrió 0,76 millas de sendero, despejando la vegetación y acondicionando la superficie para mantener este popular sendero en perfecto estado.

Corral Creek es uno de los destinos favoritos para montar en bicicleta en el valle, lo que hizo que el equipo recibiera muchos comentarios mientras trabajaba. A medida que los ciclistas pasaban, muchos se paraban para dar las gracias y mostrar su agradecimiento por el trabajo que se estaba realizando en el sendero. Para los voluntarios, fue un gran recordatorio de que el trabajo que estaban realizando tenía un impacto inmediato en las personas que utilizan el sendero.

Muchísimas gracias a todo el equipo de ciclismo de montaña de Wood River por acudir, trabajar duro y ayudar a cuidar uno de los senderos más queridos del valle.
