Explore the craft of writing poems that take their form from the world around us. Join Madison-based poet Deshawn McKinney at the Sun Prairie Public Library to discover the art and science of blackout poetry.

Learn what makes something a blackout poem, explore the techniques that make these poems strike a chord, and practice what you’ve learned with a series of writing exercises. There will be time for discussion, writing, and (fingers crossed) sharing!

Intended Audience: Grade 9 to Adult

Join Prairie Music & Arts for the **NEW** Artsy Kids Club for youth in grades K-5! Guided by teaching artist Chele Ramos of Portraits by Chele Ramos, each session will showcase a planned project, exposing young artists to a variety of artistic styles. This open art format also offers the freedom to explore independent art-making using self-chosen materials.

Classes take place on the 2nd Saturday from September through December: Sept 12, Oct 10, Nov 14, Dec 12, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. There is no registration for this FREE, drop-in format!

Today we are celebrating our collaboration with Sun Prairie Schools!

Over 350 Sun Prairie Area School District students participated in Prairie Music & Arts creative programming in 2026, with many taking part in our Winter Workshops in January and our Sun Prairie Creates Spring Break Camp in March.

Prairie Music & Arts GO-CART Program removes barriers of transportation and cost for participants. Statistics from the 2025 Sun Prairie Census proves the need for low/no-cost arts programming.

The GO-CART Program goal is to provide arts enrichment at no cost to participants, provided at convenient locations such as parks, events, and other community locations.

With 25.5% of Sun Prairie's population under 18, this program can be an asset to the youth in our community! Thanks to our sponsors Dane Arts, Exchange Club of Sun Prairie, Visit Sun Prairie, and Sun Prairie Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department!

It was a great day! Thank you Sunshine Place for your partnership!

, Sunshine Place & Prairie Music & Arts were out filling bellies & creative brains today! We distributed over 220 lunches and at home art kits out in neighborhoods across Sun Prairire Lunches will continue to be served Monday, Wednesday and Fridays for the next two weeks until the school year starts - come out and say HI!
