This past weekend, three of our gardeners proudly held a selection of LGBTQ+ books that were recently donated to our Free Little Library. We are grateful for donations that help make knowledge, stories, and diverse perspectives accessible to everyone.

Our garden is a welcoming space for all people, regardless of age, background, identity, or experience level. We are committed to fostering a community rooted in kindness, respect, inclusion, and belonging.

Whether you're here to grow tomatoes, flowers, friendships, or simply enjoy the space, you are welcome here. πŸŒˆπŸ“šβ˜€οΈ

We’re off to a busy and exciting start at Smith’s Crossing Community Garden! 🌱

This April, we kicked off a big project to expand our garden by removing grass and building an entirely new garden section. Thanks to lots of hard work, we were able to add 6 new garden beds, a future pumpkin patch, a flower bed, and a brand-new food pantry plot! πŸŽƒπŸŒ»πŸ₯•

That means we now have THREE plots dedicated to supporting Sunshine Pantry at Sunshine Place! β˜€οΈπŸ’™πŸ©΅

Our mission is simple: grow fresh food, strengthen our community, and help fight food insecurity.

Have extra vegetable or produce plants? Consider donating them to our garden! We’ll help grow them and donate the harvest to Sunshine Place for those in need.

We are super excited to grow produce for Sunshine Place!

🌱Are you a gardener still getting everything planted? Consider planting a row (or more!) for Sunshine Pantry! The pantry accepts produce of all kinds and our shoppers are so grateful for fresh, seasonal food. πŸ₯•πŸ…πŸ₯¬πŸ  Check out our produce donation guidelines in the flyer!

🍏 Not much of a gardener? Consider hosting a food drive instead: https://sunshineplace.org/food-drive-kit/

A huge thank you to the 27 (yes 27!!) volunteers who came out to our Earth Day Cleanup. A special thank you to Team Anjani for bringing so many volunteers and helping make such a big impact. Because of everyone’s hard work, our garden beds are one step closer to growing fresh food for the local food pantry. We appreciate your time, energy, and community spirit! πŸŒŽπŸ’š

We love seeing community resources like this! 🌿

Did you know that we currently have a Native Seed Library? 🌱

We are partnering with the Dane County Land & Water Resources Department to provide free native plant seeds at the library! Native plants are adapted to the local climate and soils, are drought tolerant, and have deep root systems that help infiltrate rain water. πŸ’§ They also provide important ecosystem services such as improved water quality and habitat and food for local wildlife, including numerous pollinator species. 🐝

The seeds were all collected by Dane County Parks volunteers and Operation Fresh Start crews and packaged by local volunteers.

Growing instructions are available online at danecountyparks.com/grow.

Stop by the library to get yours today!
