Women Veterans Recognition Day is observed annually on June 12, commemorating the 1948 signing of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, which granted women the right to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces. While not a federal holiday, it is celebrated by over 20 states and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The day is meant to honor history without dividing the veteran community, serving to acknowledge women's sacrifices past and present without replacing or competing with Veterans Day.

Shabbat Shalom Family,

We received two cards in the mail today from the American Legion, thanking us for the generous donation of money for softballs. Two teams signed thank you cards to our Post.

Background.

American Legion Baseball is a variety of amateur baseball played by 13-to-19-year-olds in all fifty states in the U.S. and Canada. More than 3,500 teams participate each year. The American Legion Department of South Dakota established the program in 1925 at Milbank, South Dakota.

Thank you for your consistent generosity to serve others. I am in awe of you!

David Wasserman saw this plaque at San Tan Mountain Park, the same park this Marine once rode horses in (he grew up in Queen Creek). After being in Iraq only 10 days, the Humvee Martens rode in missed the edge of a bridge during a night mission and rolled. He was crushed underneath. The flowers you see at the base of the memorial was laid there by David this morning before his run.
