The 2026 AFA National Convention was held at the Ga***rd Resort in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC, on September 12-13. On our Chapter website, https://waterman-twining.afa.org/, under the Latest News Tab, is a summary of the Convention.

At the Convention, at the Field Awards Dinner, the Waterman-Twining Chapter received the Unit Exceptional Service Award for Heritage, recognizing the Chapter’s 35th Anniversary of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm event held on Friday, March 6, 2026. On June 2, 2026, Bill Yucuis presented at the Hillsborough County Leadership Mini-Conference, held at Wharton High School. Bill spoke about NASA’s Artemis Mission and then talked about AFA’s STEM programs, including Educator Grants, Teacher of the Year, StellarXplorers, and CyberPatriot, plus CAP’s ACE program.

On May 5, 2026, Bill Yucuis attended the Florida College Academy (FCA) to present the 2026 Chapter Teacher of the year (TOY) Award to Edie Dorrell. On May 4, Bill Yucuis attended the Durant High School AFJRPTC Awards Ceremony and presented the AFA AFJRPTC Cadet of the Year Award to Charlotte Belloso.

On April 25, Teri Weide, the Chapter VP for Education, attended the AFJROTC Awards ceremony held at Hernando High School and presented the AFA AFJROTC Cadet of the Year Award.

Ten cadets from the University of South Florida’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 158, representing the Arnold Air Society Gen. James V. Hartinger Squadron, attended the AAS National Conclave (NATCON) held April 3-7 in Dallas, Texas.

Cadet Nathan Grafton earned the Arnold Air Society Commander’s Award for his outstanding service as Region IV commander, highlighting his leadership and contributions to the organization.

On Thursday, March 23, 2026, Emily Farkas, the Waterman-Twining Chapter Treasurer and USF Arnold Air Society Liaison, attended the USF AFROTC Awards Ceremony. She presented the AFA Martin Harris Outstanding Cadet of the Year Award to Cadet George Merritt.

Bloomingdale High School held their AFJROTC Awards ceremony on Monday, April 20. Bill Yucuis, the Chapter President, attended and presented the AFA AFJROTC Cadet of the Year Award to AFJROTC Cadet Kraus.

AFA's Doolittle Leadership Center is thrilled to once again present the Doolittle Raiders Memorial Toast.

Continuing a decades-long Air Force tradition started by AFA's founding president Gen. Jimmy Doolittle and his fellow Raiders in 1945, Air Force and Space Force units and AFA members around the world will raise a glass to the 84th anniversary of the legendary Doolittle Raid and the Raiders' enduring warfighting spirit, bravery, and innovation.

We will be livestreaming the event right here on AFA.org and on AFA's YouTube channel, so that you or your organization can toast along with us from anywhere in the world. The ceremony will begin at 5:45 p.m. ET and last for 40-45 minutes.
