Community Impact in Action 💙

The Sumter Junior Welfare League is proud to share the impact of this year’s Community Research efforts. Through this process, we continue to learn more about the incredible organizations serving Sumter and how we can best support their missions.

This year, grant requests totaled over $61,000, demonstrating the growing needs within our community. Thanks to the dedication and generosity of our members and supporters, SJWL was able to give over $17,000 back to the Sumter community.

These funds were made possible through our fundraising efforts, including:
✨ Deck the Doors (raising over $9,000!)
✨ Spring Mahjong Fundraiser
✨ Kendra Scott event at The Wishing Well

Thank you to everyone who participated, sold, and worked so hard to make these initiatives successful - your efforts truly make a difference.

A special thank you to our Community Research Committee for their leadership and commitment throughout this process.

We are honored to support this year’s grant recipients: Millwood Elementary School, Any Length Recovery, Inc., The Woman's Afternoon Music Club, American Heart Association, Sumter County Capernaum, Sumter Little Theatre, Sumter County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, Alice Drive Elementary School, Tandem, Sumter Behavioral Health, Rotary Club of Sumter Sunrise, YMCA of Sumter and Pietas Coalition Corp..

It is a privilege to partner with these organizations as they continue to strengthen and uplift the Sumter community. 💙

It means so much to see the impact of this grant in action - helping create opportunities for students to experience joy, adventure, and meaningful growth in an environment designed just for them.

We are SO grateful to the Sumter Junior Welfare League for their generous grant of $1,650 toward Capernaum Camp! Thank you for your commitment to giving back to our community!

Sumter Capernaum currently participates in three types of camping opportunities: Summer Camp, Winter Weekend Camp, and Local Day Camps.

Through the support of gracious community members like the JWL, we are able to help lower camp costs for families so that all of our students can experience fun, adventure, and growth in their faith in camping environments specifically designed to meet their unique needs.

We are so proud to support the incredible work of Sumter Little Theatre! 🎭💙

From scholarships for young performers to supporting productions, it’s an honor to invest in programs that enrich our community and inspire the next generation.

We were honored to welcome special guests from The Tuomey Foundation - Beth Luebbert, Elizabeth Patel, and Ginna Gaymon - at our March League Meeting to share the incredible impact being made right here in Sumter 💙

Beth spoke candidly about her time in the League and how, looking back, she now fully sees the lasting impact our work has on the hospital, patients, and our entire community. From the Wishing Well to direct support for team members and families, the ripple effect is real and meaningful.

The Tuomey Foundation continues to make a powerful difference as well, raising an incredible $1.5 million last year alone, all of which stays right here in Sumter County. These funds directly support critical services like Women & Children’s care, imaging, and more.

Elizabeth Patel, Director of Women’s & Children’s Services, shared just how vital that support is:
👶 Over 1,000 babies delivered each year
🩺 Specialized NICU care for infants 32+ weeks
💛 A Child Life Specialist supporting pediatric patients across departments
🌡️ Advanced equipment like heat warmers and specialty beds to keep babies safe and comfortable

We are so grateful for this partnership and the shared commitment to caring for our community in such meaningful ways.

The Sumter Junior Welfare League is honored to support Any Length Recovery, Inc. through our Community Grants program. These funds will help provide Alcoholics Anonymous Big Books for residents beginning their recovery journey.

We are grateful for the organizations working every day to strengthen the Sumter community.

Today we were blessed with a grant from Sumter Junior Welfare League. This money will be used to purchase Alcoholics Anonymous Big Books for our residents. We are so grateful for everything you do for Sumter. Thank you for this gift.
