The Lazarus House Inc, is a non-profit shelter with a special emphasis to include our Military Veterans, who so unselfishly gave of themselves to protect our freedom and way of life. Program Concept
The services and resources provided by The Lazarus House Inc., will include, but are not limited to initial intake assessment; assisting in the VA and Social Service benefits and claims process; iden
tifying physical, mental emotional, and social health issues and referring accordingly; emergency and transitional shelter and sustenance job training employment service, and crisis intervention. Determination for immediate crisis intervention such as temporary lodging (bath, laundry, telephone, identification cards) food & clothing assistance, transportation, or referral to other homeless providers will depend on the availability of such resource. will attempt to fine the resources from other collaborating agencies or homeless providers in the local area or the local Red Cross for assistance. Many other veterans, according to the VA are considered near homeless or at risk because of their poverty, lack of support from family and friends, and dismal living conditions in cheap hotels or in overcrowded or substandard housing. Besides word of mouth, accessibility through website, telephones (hotline), flyers in locations frequently visited by homeless population, the best way to end homelessness is to prevent it. Providing eviction prevention services such as rent subsides, assistance with utilities, case management, or mediation wit landlords are cost –effective way of keeping individuals and families in their homes. The target population for the program is the homeless and veteran, with an emphasis on providing treatment for clients with substance abuse problems. The shelter setting is ideal for people who need time and space in a stress-free environment to work through their problem, and allows them to gain experience and develop a stronger sense of self-worth while doing various types of work, both as individuals and as members of a team. However, in providing service to the general population and other services providers we can at times be value added’ in our discussions with them. Referrals to local shelters, transitional housing models, soup kitchens and medical clinics and provided to non-veterans and necessary.
