βοΈ HEAT ADVISORY β PLEASE STAY SAFE βοΈ
Comrades, Auxiliary members, families, and our Sumter community,
Severe heat is expected across Sumter County from Friday, June 12 through Saturday, June 13. Extreme temperatures and humidity can quickly become dangerous, especially for our Veterans, seniors, outdoor workers, and those with health concerns.
As Veterans, we have always looked out for one another β and that mission continues here at home. Please check on your battle buddies, neighbors, friends, and family members during this heat event.
β οΈ Know the Warning Signs of Heat Illness
π₯΅ HEAT CRAMPS
Early signs your body is struggling:
β’ Painful muscle cramps (often legs or stomach area)
β’ Heavy sweating
β
Move to a cooler location
β
Rest and drink small amounts of water
β
Gently stretch or massage cramped muscles
Seek medical attention if cramps last longer than 1 hour.

π‘ HEAT EXHAUSTION
Watch for:
β’ Heavy sweating
β’ Weakness or tiredness
β’ Cool, pale, clammy skin
β’ Fast, weak pulse
β’ Dizziness
β’ Nausea or vomiting
β’ Headache or fainting
β
Move to air conditioning or shade
β
Loosen clothing
β
Cool the person with wet cloths or a cool bath
β
Provide small sips of water if able
Seek medical attention if symptoms worsen, vomiting occurs, or symptoms last longer than 1 hour.

π¨ HEAT STROKE β CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY π¨
This is a life-threatening emergency.
Warning signs:
β’ Confusion or slurred speech
β’ Loss of consciousness
β’ Body temperature above 103Β°F
β’ Hot, red, dry or damp skin
β’ Rapid, strong pulse
β’ Severe headache or dizziness
β
Move the person to a cooler area
β
Begin cooling immediately with cool cloths or a bath
β Do NOT give fluids
A delay in treatment can be fatal.
