In a report led by the South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health (IMPH) and the South Carolina Department on Aging, it was stated that social isolation and loneliness can have a significant impact, not just on someone’s mental health, but their physical health as well.

According to a statement released by the U.S. Surgeon General in 2020, widespread isolation can have the same health impact as smoking 15 ci******es a day.
