📚✨ What a fantastic first day at the Early Learning Center (ELC) and throughout the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District!

The Sumner-Bonney Lake Education Foundation (SBLEF) was proud to welcome our youngest learners by funding 700 books -one for every Kindergarten student in our district. This initiative was made possible through a wonderful display of generosity and local partnership.

It all began with Skip Sherwood, who raised $1,500 through the Men’s Group at Trilogy in Tehaleh. The Gates Foundation then tripled that amount, transforming Skip’s gift into something truly extraordinary. With these funds, SBLEF purchased 700 books for the Kindergarten students attending Sumner-Bonney Lake schools. We made a point to keep the money in our community by buying from A Good Book General Bookstore, a local retailer we proudly support.

We’re thrilled to have played a part in this joyful beginning and wish all of our district's Kindergarteners a fabulous year ahead. May your imaginations soar, your friendships grow, and your love of learning blossom! 💛📖

We were honored to accept a generous donation of $10,674 from Red Canoe Credit Union and their incredible community partners- Sumner-Bonney Lake Family Resource Center, Red Canoe Credit Union, Creator Lutheran Church, Rotary Club of Sumner, and many thoughtful donors who helped “fill the canoe. The check was presented yesterday at Red Canoe’s Lake Tapps branch to our amazing leader, Erin LaVerdiere. These funds will directly support local students facing basic needs as they head back to school. While we’re proud of our long history of providing scholarships, we’re especially excited to focus on supporting students currently in the district and finding meaningful ways to meet their needs.
