Aren’t the colors in this Chagall wonderful? My son Matt and I had a splendid day at MOMA and the best part was we used the Summit Library Museum passes for admittance. We had a great day wandering the halls, saw a Frida Kahlo exhibit, and, of course, all the regular MOMA paintings. Have you borrowed a museum pass from the library? The Friends would love to feature you on this page.

Don’t forget about the ongoing magazine drive at the Summit Free Public Library!

Our magazine stacks are looking a little sparse right now, so before you head to the recycling bin, bring your recent magazines to the library instead.

Your donated magazines get a second life, stay out of the landfill, and help the Friends raise money to support the library.

And while you’re here, shop the stacks! Pick up recipes, decorating ideas, travel inspiration, gardening tips, and more. After all, a great recipe doesn’t go out of style.

Stop by the Summit Free Public Library this Thursday for the Library of Things Carnival!
The Library of Things is one of the many ways the Friends of the Library fund programs and offers that take what the library can offer far beyond just books! Check it out.

Summit Free Public Library’s August lineup includes crafts, movies, trivia, author talks and a family carnival with ice cream.

Antonietta LaVecchia put it perfectly in her latest Patch piece: for the price of a dinner out (or two fancy coffees ☕), you can help fund museum passes, concerts, lectures, and all the extra magic our Summit Free Public Library can offer in part due to the support of the Friends!

We're beyond grateful to Antonietta for the shoutout, and for the reminder to Summit just how far $25 can go. If you've been thinking about joining, consider this your sign!

We might be biased but, $25 investments don't get much better than this one.

Borrow from the Library of Things! Such cool stuff is available. The LOT is one of the ways that money raised by The Friends supports the library.

Check out the article shared in the latest Summit Free Public Library newsletter:

Summer is the perfect time to dive into the Summit Library’s Library of Things collection. If you’ve been watching the birds flit through your neighborhood, borrow our bird watching kit and see what you can spot. Planning an outdoor adventure? Grab our camping chairs for a concert in the park, challenge your family to a backyard croquet match, or go on a treasure hunt with our metal detecting kit. Host an unforgettable backyard movie night with our movie projector and screen. You’ll also find a Yeti wheeled cooler for chilled drinks, a Sonos Move speaker for music on the go, and a co****le set for your next barbecue. Borrow any item for a week and reserve up to six months in advance.

Our Library of Things collection is available exclusively to adult Summit Library cardholders, and you can check out two items at a time. Remember, overdue fines are $10 per day, so make sure to return your spikeball set promptly after your trip down the shore!

Hi all. As many of you know, the Friends of the Summit Free Public Library twice-annual Giant Donated Jewelry Sale at is not only a huge success each time, but a visual wonder with beautiful, color-coded selections displayed in baskets, on racks, and on boards.

A few years ago we introduced a wildly popular “dollar table” which has thousands and thousands of pieces, but lacks some organization because we use most of our display items for the regular tables.

Do you have some items that might work? Tiered baskets for bracelets? A ring holder? Something from a workshop that might be perfect? Actual jewelry displays?

I’m not sure what the best way to gather this stuff is, as I know this community can be so generous, and our storage issues must be considered.

If it’s not too much trouble, could you share a photo here with what you might offer?

While I’m here, I’ll add that we are always looking for volunteers to help with our sales. From behind-the-scene efforts like this organizational task, to publicity and marketing, to jewelry sorting, display, and actual sales.

These (sorry, blurry) shots were taken from a video from some of the items we currently use for display for the main part of the sale and would love similar for the dollar table.

A huge conundrum we have is how to best display our thousands of necklaces, which are currently shown on foam boards with pushpins and is the bane of our existence. Have a better idea? Join our jewelry committee and help us brainstorm!

Thanks for supporting the Summit Free Public Library.
