There's still open spots for 3rd Space! 🎶

We're so excited to welcome our friends from Summerville Orchestra for this month's 3rd Space, this Tuesday from 6:00–7:30PM! 🎻✨

If you haven't heard of 3rd Space yet, it's our FREE monthly screen-free hangout for 5th–8th graders. Come make art, play games, enjoy free pizza, and spend time with friends! 🫶

This month kids will get to meet members of the Summerville Orchestra and enjoy some musical activities alongside all of our usual Third Space fun!

💛 A huge thank you to Reagin Orthodontics for making Third Space possible each month. Their support helps us provide a safe, welcoming place for local kids to build friendships and get creative together.

Registration is completely FREE, but spots are limited, and filling up fast! We'd love to see you there! 😎

Juneteenth is coming up, and there are a bunch of ways to engage with art, music, history, and community happening this week (& the next!) 💚❤️💛

Public Works Art Center will be open this Friday on Juneteenth, and we’re also highlighting some amazing FREE events happening in the area/hosted by our friends!

🎶 Rhythm & Roots Cultural Concert (Summerville Parks & Rec)
Live outdoor music celebrating Black history, culture, and music.

🏛️ J.O.Y. | Juneteenth on the Yard at the International African American Museum
A day of free museum admission & cultural programming.

🎨 Community Mural Experience hosted by NAACP Goose Creek Branch
A collaborative mural experience, free and open for the public to contribute to.

👨🏾‍ Juneteenth & Father’s Day Celebration (James Island Town Hall)
A community gathering featuring music, poetry, children's face painting, and more.

🎤 Black Soundtrack 2 at Public Works Art Center
An evening of music and artist talks, presented by current exhibiting curator Ty Davis to accompany the exhibition Godbody: The Femme!

Our very own Studio Artist will also be at Juneteenth Charleston Family Fest by 🎉

🧵You guys sold out the first one, so we added another week of Summer Sewing Camp!

If your child is curious about sewing this is the place to start! This hands-on four-day sewing camp is specially designed for beginner sewists aged 7-13! Running Tuesday 7/14 through Friday 7/17 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, this program offers an introduction to the world of machine sewing.

The main project for this camp will be creating their very own custom pair of cotton shorts!🪡

🖌Our 4-day Oil Painting Workshop is now open to adults & teens 15+!

Join us from 7/21-24 at 1-4:30pm to learn about painting from direct observation, color mixing, perspective and more! Students will also be encouraged to develop original, personal solutions in their work, gaining tools and confidence they can carry into their own individual artistic practice.

MEOWDY PARTNER 🐱 NEXT WEEK IS THIRD THURSDAY!!

Join us at Public Works Art Center on June 18th (5:30PM - 8:30PM) for Third Thursday! We have a special surprise for this one :3

Our friends from Dorchester Paws will be hosting an adoption event with—yesss you guessed it, kittens!! 🐈 Come visit us and maybe find your forever friend! ❤️‍🩹

As always, we'll have open studios (shop local & say hi to our studio artists!) and tons of beautiful art to look at. Admission is free, so drop by & hang out with us (and the kittens!!) for the evening.

💫 3RD SPACE IS BACK ON JUNE 23RD! 💫

Hang out with us later this month! On June 23rd, from 6PM-7:30PM, 3rd Space is BACK and ready for more summer fun. ☀️

3rd Space is a screen-free hangout meant for 5th-8th graders, where kids can craft together, play games, and just spend time connecting offline!

There'll be free pizza, drinks, arts and crafts, basketball, and more! This is also a COMPLETELY FREE event, hosted monthly, thanks to our friends at Reagin Orthodontics!! Thank you guys SO MUCH for supporting safe & creative third spaces for our kids. 💛

🧶Rug Hooking & Punch Needle Demo | Saturday 6/27, 10:30am-12:30pm
This is a drop-in style demo allowing students to try their hand at primitive rug hooking/punch needle. Come by anytime between 10:30am-12:30pm (after signing up on our website of course!)

⭐Beginner Needle Felting for Kids | Thursday 7/2, 5:30-6:30pm
Discover the magic of needle felting in this fun and hands-on class designed especially for creative kids! Students will create and decorate their very own hanging wool ornament—perfect to display on a window, wall, backpack, or fridge.

🌵Needle Felting: Cacti & Succulents | Tuesday 7/7, 5-7:30pm
Join us for a hands-on needle felting workshop where we will learn how to make whimsical and fun needle felted cacti and succulents! Whether you are a beginner or have some felting experience, this class is geared to help you create a beautiful felted plant. Anyone can learn how to needle felt!

Join us on Saturday June 20th, 1:30-3:30pm and July 11th from 1-3pm to make your very own fish suncatcher!!

The June 20th class makes the perfect gift for Father's Day on the 21st, whether that's giving a handmade gift or bringing Dad with for the class!

But you don't have to be coming to celebrate Father's Day to join in on the fun, all are welcome for this beginners workshop!!

🎥✨ Meet Amy Stewart

Meet Amy Stewart, whose exhibition "Intersections" explores the connections that eventually shape who we become!

Through layered paintings built up over time, Amy reflects on the experiences, relationships, and chance encounters that have each altered the trajectory of her life; spanning moments that were world-ending to the ordinary and mundane. Her work invites us to consider the moments that have changed our own paths—and the ways we've changed others'—without ever realizing it.

Come see this heartfelt collection of vibrant, textured work at Public Works Art Center! On view in our East Gallery through July 11th. 💘
