District President Mary-Kate Ward had the opportunity to attend the 2026 SCPTA Legislative Conference at the South Carolina State House on Wednesday, joining advocates from across the state for a meaningful day of learning, connection, and action. Experiences like this strengthen our commitment to ensuring every child’s voice is represented.

Next year we'd love to take a group to represent our District and continue building strong advocates for our students and schools.

What an unforgettable evening!

On Monday, April 20th, we held our annual District PTA Spring Awards at Summerville High School. This event is always something to look forward to, and this year was no exception.

We continue to be blown away by the outstanding efforts of our local PTA units. The level of care, creativity, and commitment shown in supporting school communities is truly remarkable and makes a meaningful difference for students and families.

Congratulations to all nominees, awards of merit recipients, and award winners! It was an honor to recognize the exceptional administrators, teachers, support staff, volunteers, and students who go above and beyond each day.

We also celebrated local PTA units for their achievements in innovation, service, family engagement, membership, and communication.

Thank you to all of our PTA leaders and volunteers for everything you do. Your impact is truly inspiring!

We are grateful for district leaders, board members, principals, and community partners who share our commitment to supporting children. Your collaboration helps make this work possible.

What an incredible evening at the Dorchester/Colleton District PTA Reflections Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 12th! We were honored to recognize the outstanding creativity, talent, and hard work of our student artists.

This year’s theme, “I Belong,” inspired powerful and meaningful entries across Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Each piece told a unique story and showcased the voices of our students in such a special way.

👏 Congratulations to all of our District winners—we are so proud of you!

Thank you to our families, teachers, administrators, and district leaders for supporting the arts and making this program possible. And to our student artists—thank you for sharing your creativity with us. 💙

🎊Congratulations to Khadiya Kenzhegulova from Beech Hill Elementary PTA in South Carolina, who is our Reflections Theme Search Contest Winner! Khadiya’s theme submission “Dreams Build Tomorrow” will inspire young artists as they participate in the 2027-2028 program. Khadiya previously participated in the Reflections program, but this is the first time submitting a theme. When asked what inspired the theme, Khadiya said, “I was thinking about how many kids have big dreams inside them. Sometimes we don’t always say them out loud, but they are there. Some kids dream about creating something amazing, becoming famous, inventing something cool, or doing something that makes people notice them. I wanted a theme that reminds everyone that those dreams matter. Even if you’re just a kid, your ideas can grow into something real one day.”

This document includes descriptions for all of the awards plus the nomination form questions for the Local Unit Awards to prep before starting the online form.

Please review carefully as we updated criteria for some of the awards this year. We also added a new Spirit of PTA award.

🌟 At a minimum, we hope all units will submit nominees for PTA Administrator, Teacher, Support Staff, and Volunteer "Of the Year" awards.

Our District President, Mary-Kate Ward, had the opportunity to represent the South Carolina Lowcountry at the National PTA Legislative Conference in Alexandria, VA from March 2-4. This event brings together PTA leaders from across the country to connect, learn, and advocate on behalf of children, families, and public schools. On Hill Day, the delegation from South Carolina had the opportunity to meet with congressional staff for 5 of our House Representatives and both Senators to advocate for all SC students! 💙

We are so proud to share that our district had 20+ winners place at State in the PTA Reflections program! This is a huge achievement and a true testament to the creativity, talent, and hard work of our amazing students — along with the support of their families, teachers, and PTA leaders. 💙

An extra round of applause for our 12 Award of Excellence recipients who will now advance to the National level! 👏 We are cheering you on!
