This is Tennessee Trillium (Trillium tennesseense), a rare wildflower that was identified as "new to science" in 2013 and protected through TennGreen and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation's Union Grove acquisition in 2024.

Tennessee Trillium lives in woody hillsides above healthy creeks and, to date, has only been found in the Bays Mountain formation areas in Hamblen and Hawkins Counties.

Flowers of this perennial plant bloom from early to late spring. Three distinct, bright yellow petals project upwards as mirroring broad leaves take in sunlight on the forest floor.
