Harris for President Golf Cart Caravan Saturday in The Villages!

We are about 100 days away from the most important election of our lives!

The Harris campaign in Florida asked us to rally as part of statewide and nationwide demonstrations of enthusiasm for Vice President Kamala Harris' candidacy to finish the job she started with President Joe Biden.

DETAILS

Come in your golf cart the Barnes & Noble Bookstore parking lot in Lake Sumter Landing by 12:30 p.m., Saturday. Arrive decorated, please. The Harris campaign will be bringing signs.

You also can choose to stand along the route, waving signs and cheering.

The campaign is working on getting a well-known-in-Florida campaign surrogate to address the crowd and lead the caravan.

This will be a joyful display of our optimism for success in November.

Dr. Mark Welton will discuss “War Crimes: Ukraine, Israel and Gaza”
The conflicts in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza have raised serious questions and concerns about war crimes. This talk gives a brief overview of what constitutes war crimes, and focuses on how war crimes might be dealt with in the current conflicts in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza.

Dr. Welton received his undergraduate education at Stanford University, and a master's degree in International Relations from Boston University. He also holds three law degrees: a JD from Georgetown University, an LLM (Masters of Law) and a SJD (PHD in Law) from the University of Virginia Law School.

Dr. Welton served 20 plus years and retired from active duty as an Army Judge Advocate working in international law, including as Chief of International Law for the US Army Europe; Legal Liaison Officer at the US Embassy in Germany; Senior Instructor of International and Operational Law at the Judge Advocate General's School; and Deputy Legal Advisor, US European Command.

In his second career as a civilian, he had the title of Professor of Discipline and Director of the Program in International and Comparative Law, at the US Military Academy, West Point. He directed and taught courses in US and Comparative Constitutional Law; Jurisprudence and Legal Theory; International Law; Comparative Legal Systems; and Islamic Law.

He has written books and journal chapters and lectured on these subjects at governmental and educational institutions in the US, Canada, and Europe. Dr. Welton retired as Professor emeritus from West Point and moved to The Villages, Florida in 2012.

Climate Change and Sea Level Rise
Don Chambers, Ph.D
Professor, College of Marine Science, University of South Florida, St. Petersburg

Dr. Chambers holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas. Dr. Chambers specializes in using satellite observations such as radar altimetry and satellite gravimetry to better understand ocean dynamics. His primary research focus is quantifying and understanding sea level variability, especially trying to separate natural climate variability from anthropogenic climate change. He is interested in all the dynamical processes that cause sea level change, including ocean circulation, ocean heat storage, ocean mass redistribution, and influx of fresh water from the continents and ice sheets.

Dr. Chambers has been a member of several NASA satellite Science Teams, including TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1, and is currently a member of the NASA Ocean Surface Topography and GRACE Science Teams, and is one of four U.S. scientists to serve on the joint NASA/European Space Agency Gravity Constellation Science Team. He has been a member of U.S. CLIVAR and is currently a Lead Author on the latest climate assessment by the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Dr. Chambers was selected as the Bowie Lecturer for the 2013 Fall AGU Meeting.
