🚨 ACTION NEEDED – Disabled Veteran Property Tax Bills 🚨

The Missouri House Veterans Committee is holding a hearing on several Disabled Veteran Property Tax bills.

🗓 Tuesday, March 3, 2026
⏰ 12:00 PM
📍 House Hearing Room 7

🎥 Watch Live Here:
https://house.mo.gov/CommitteeDetail.aspx?category=all&year=2026&code=R&cluster=true&committee=4346&nid=11308

Bills Being Heard Include:

• 4 statewide homestead exemption bills (tiered property tax relief based on VA disability rating)
• 2 county-option real property tax credit bills
• 1 county-option personal property tax bill (up to two vehicles)

This hearing will help determine which bills move forward.

📣 Submit Testimony Here:

https://witness.house.mo.gov/Default.aspx?bill=HB2276¬iceid=11308

You do NOT have to attend in person.

When submitting testimony:
• Select ALL of the disabled veteran property tax bills listed for the hearing.
• The same written statement can be copied and submitted for each bill.

Why Your Testimony Matters

Legislators notice when veterans speak up.

Even a short statement:
• Shows support
• Helps move bills forward
• Reminds lawmakers this affects real Missouri veterans and families

If veterans do not engage, lawmakers assume the issue is not urgent.

✍️ Simple Testimony Example (Copy and Paste)

If you are unsure what to write, you can use this:

Chairman and Members of the Committee,
I am a Missouri veteran and I support legislation that provides property tax relief for disabled veterans. Rising property taxes impact veterans and their families across our state. Please move these bills forward so disabled veterans can receive the relief they have earned through their service. Thank you for your consideration.

Please share this with other Missouri veterans.

Attention all veterans PLEASE PASS ALONG TO GET YOUR VOICES HEARD!!!

Veterans!! That new VA ruling about lowering your rating because of medications is open for commenting before it's locked in. I checked this, the link works. Please go comment and share!
The rule is currently open for public comment, and this is your chance to make your voice heard.

1. Go to www.regulations.gov
2. In the search bar, enter the docket/RIN: 2900-AS49

A Big Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the Warming Center possible—without you, none of this would be achievable.

During the last storm, we had an average of 20 guests staying each night. It took the dedication of 37 volunteers, including cooks, shelter attendants, and organizers, to make it all happen.

When you add it all up, that equates to 7,992 volunteer hours.
With each hour valued at approximately $34.79, that means our collective effort provided an astounding $278,041 worth of service to our community.

That’s not just time—that’s compassion, commitment, and community in action.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for continuing to serve.

(P.S. The numbers come straight from National HQ)

Why We Serve

During a warming shelter shift, a visitor came in—clearly down on his luck and more than a little drunk—and asked me a question that stuck with me. He said, “Why are you doing this? Why are you here helping people like me?”

I paused for a moment before I answered.

“Why not?” I said. “Why not help people in your position? Most of the volunteers in this building, at some point in their lives, took an oath and signed a piece of paper essentially saying that, if need be, they would die for this country. That oath didn’t come with an expiration date.”

This building doesn’t belong to us, and the money it brings in doesn’t either. We are merely stewards—caretakers—here to serve our communities. Just like we protected them while we were off in some foreign land, we continue to serve by protecting and caring for our neighbors here at home.

Service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. It just takes on a new form.

So when someone asks me why I’m here, my answer will always be simple:
Because I still have a duty to serve.
