🚨 After failing to agree on a funding deal, Congress allowed the government to shut down. 🚨
To keep the government funded, our political leaders would have had to agree to a deal that would heap even more harm on Black people, cutting Medicare and eliminating life-saving credits that lower the cost of healthcare. A budget that causes harm, prioritizes the wealthy, and fails to work for everyone does not deserve another extension. Our people, our families, our communities, deserve better.
Make no mistake, a government shutdown is not good. The administration is already threatening a mass layoff of federal workers, who are overwhelmingly Black. We know they don’t care about our livelihoods. But we will uphold our communities like we always have.
We’re telling our Members of Congress to keep up the fight. The government should fund healthcare. The government should support all communities. And until it does, hold the line.
