What was once an overgrown corner of a public park is now a vibrant community gathering place.

NPV Partner Max Stach recently toured Newburgh Sanctuary at Crystal Lake and helped present the 2025 Stu Turner Placemaking Grant. This annual grant awarded by Vision Hudson Valley and endowed by NPV in memory of former Partner and Vision Hudson Valley Trustee Stuart Turner recognizes outstanding community-driven placemaking initiatives.

Led by We Love Crystal Lake - a coalition of 33 local organizations - the Newburgh Sanctuary has transformed an underutilized park area into a vibrant community asset supporting food access, youth leadership, environmental stewardship, and community connection.

The grant will support the Sanctuary’s planned arts, wellness, and cultural programs, continuing to build connection, pride, and opportunity within the community.

NPV is proud to support projects that show how community vision can transform a place into something truly meaningful.

Valley Gives is wrapping up soon, and there’s still time to support Placemaking+—a program dedicated to creating meaningful, creative spaces that bring people together across our region. Every contribution helps us continue building environments that inspire connection, reflection, and community.

One example close to our hearts is our own placemaking initiative at the Seligmann Estate: the Jerome Spector Meditation Trail. Designed as a space for quiet reflection and artistic inspiration, the trail weaves together nature, history, and creativity—offering visitors a chance to slow down, reconnect, and experience the landscape in a deeper way.
