“Since 2001, following the enlightenment of the Awakened One Thich Dieu Thien, Universal Door Meditation Center (Thien Vien Pho Mon) has devoted 25 years to the journey of awakening: reaching out and forming connections.

Why, after all these years, has Universal Door Meditation Center (UDMC) still not developed into a great meditation center?"

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆:

Because for the past 25 years, the primary work has not been to build a physical structure, but to awaken human beings, to go out, form connections, and awaken the Awakened Nature within each member of the Sangha and within those who are connected with UDMC.

A great meditation center can be built with land, stone, and money. But a living stream of Awakening cannot be built with these things.

Before building a great house on the outside, there must be people awake enough not to turn that house into a place where the “house-builder” continues to live, practice, serve, and build yet another house.

Therefore, these 25 years have not been 25 years of delay. They have been 25 years of preparation:

The ultimate purpose of UDMC is not to build a great meditation center. It is to awaken the potential for Buddhahood within each person.

When people are ready,
when the Sangha is ready,
when the Great Vow is ready,

a great meditation center will no longer be something we need to chase.
It will become the natural form of a living stream of Awakening that has fully matured.

UDMC is not 25 years late. UDMC has spent 25 years building a foundation that cannot be seen with the eyes. And today, the lotus seeds of UDMC are beginning to enter the work of creation. Not merely to build a great meditation center, but to help bring forth a living stream of Awakening that has been nurtured for 25 years.

The retreat fee covers the expenses associated with the retreat. Beyond that, heartfelt donations of any amount to deepen your connection with the Awakened One are welcome. It is extremely meaningful because when we give up our attachments, whether time, money, or energy, we grow in our capacity to receive the immeasurable benefits of the Awakened Path.
