Valley Education for Employment System

Valley Education for Employment System VALEES administers the Career and Technical Education Improvement (CTEI) state grant and the Carl J. Perkins (federal grant) to 17 local school districts.

INITIATIVES

Professional Development for the VALEES Region:

CTE staff engage in high quality professional development activities that focus on technical training in the respective program areas. Further, CTE staff along with other secondary staff and community college staff participate in workshops and graduate coursework to support the integration of real-world experiences and academic instruct

ion, particularly in the areas of mathematics, reading, and strengthening and employability skills. VALEES partners with the Kane County Regional Office of Education, Aurora University, and Northern Illinois University to provide high level graduate coursework for teachers in the region. Building Partnerships:

Partnerships are critical to ensuring the the effectiveness of the region's CTE programs. A strong partnership exists with Waubonsee Community College and members of the VALEES region. VALEES also maintains partnerships with Joliet Junior College, College of DuPage and Kishwaukee Community College. CTE PROGRAM COMMITTEES

Joint efforts to promote a seamless transition from secondary to community college programs, and higher education to the workplace, provides a broad range of opportunities for the region's students. Articulated programs align with the state and national standards and are jointly reviewed annually. Program committees comprised of secondary and community college faculty meet regularly review to curriculum and share best practices. The following program committees and focus groups actively pursue excellence in program development and business partnerships:

VALEES CTE STUDENTS

Early College Credit

Articulated Credit may be earned through high school classes that are aligned with college courses at community colleges VALEES partners with. Articulated credit enables students to enter CTE programs at a higher level, save time and money, and avoid duplication of material learned in high school CTE courses. CTE Grants:

VALEES administers over $2 million in federal grant and state grant funds through the following programs:

-Career and Technical Education Improvement: State funds to support the improvement of CTE programs at the secondary level.

-Perkins: Federal funds to support CTE including special population secondary students.

Spark! Career Extravaganza took place on April 18, 2023 and brought over 400 9th grade students from the IVVC feeder schools to the Plano Family YMCA for career exploration. Last week West Aurora School District 129 (Weisner Center) hosted a Manufacturer Breakfast/Mock Interview Event. Over 50 business Valley Industrial Association and educational partners attended the breakfast. 40 students seized on the opportunity to interview with 20 different companies!
