The Suffolk Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the NCNW Suffolk Section, invites girls ages 14–18 to join us for a morning of learning, empowerment, and advocacy!

What rights do you have at school, at work, or online? Who makes the decisions that affect your community? And how can you speak up for change, even before you’re old enough to vote?

Girls will explore these questions and more through interactive discussions, real-life scenarios, and hands-on advocacy activities!

End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights! We 👧🏿👧🏾👧🏽👧🏼👧🏻👧👧🏿👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏽👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏽👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏽

Every girl deserves the freedom to learn, grow, dream, and shape her own future. Yet each year, more than 12 million girls worldwide are married before adulthood. Child marriage is most prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, where nearly 1 in 3 girls are married before the age of 18 (UNICEF.org, 2026).
This International Day of the Girl Child, we stand together to raise awareness, protect girls’ rights, and advocate for their education, safety, health, and opportunities. When we invest in girls, we empower the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers!

Today, we recognize World Mental Health Day 💚. Awareness, education, and removing the social stigma helps us discover better ways to navigate our lived experiences.

Delta Sigma Theta is committed to working within our communties to mitigate mental health crises and provide the tools and resources neccessary for the unique support that many are in need of. We thank our National Physical and Mental Health Subcommittee for leading the charge toward a world that prioritizes the mental well-being of all people.

Most Hampton Roads schools met or exceeded state expectations for the 2025-2026 school year, according to newly released data from the Virginia Department of Education.

The performance ratings were calculated using the State Performance and Support Framework, an accountability system measuring state assessment mastery, student growth, chronic absenteeism and graduation rates.

Out of 360 local schools, roughly two-thirds were placed in the distinguished or meets expectations categories, while 20 schools required intensive support.

Attention I-64 travelers: Critical roadway repaving at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel begins THIS weekend.

A series of full weekend directional closures is planned at the HRBT for repaving. Only one direction will be closed at a time, with closures scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

🛑 Westbound toward Hampton: Oct. 2–5 and Oct. 9–12*
🛑 Eastbound toward Norfolk: Oct. 16–19 and Oct. 30–Nov. 2*

*A second closure weekend will be used if needed to complete any remaining work in that direction.
