Please take a moment to read this military times article about applying for PACT act VA health care benefits.

On Tuesday, VA Secretary Denis McDonough brought that message to the annual American Legion conference being held in North Carolina. He asked the several thousand group members assembled from across the country to relay his pleas to their fellow veterans back home.
“You have to act fast,” he said. “You have until Sept. 30th to apply. That’s only a few weeks away. If it’s you, get your application in. If it’s your buddy, tell them to get their application in.”

Veterans who deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and other combat zones and left active duty between Sept. 11, 2001, and Oct. 1, 2013, can enroll in the federal health care option for the first time thanks to provisions included the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act, better known as the PACT Act. But they only have until Sept. 30.

The provision is another benefit included in the PACT Act signed into law last summer.

Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in our Post 88 golf tournament today at Sleepy Hole Golf Course. A special shout out to our major sponsors: JC Oberst, American Legion Post 146 and The Shores Boyz. We can’t make this a successful event without you!

This event enables the American Legion to further enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities.

The weather was perfect, the drinks were cold, and the golf was…golf! A great time was had by all. ⛳️

Our Post 88 winner, Trenton, won the American Legion’s High School Oratorical Contest for the Eastern Region this morning and will compete for the Virginia state title March 3 against the winners from the North and West Regions.

In addition to his 8-10 minute prepared speech, Trenton provided a 3-5 minute assigned topic speech on Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.

Other assigned topics for this year are Amendment VI, Amendment X, and Amendment XVI. The assigned topic is drawn immediately before the last speaker begins delivery of their prepared oration and is known to the audience and each contestant approximately 5 minutes prior to the time of delivery.

Thanks to all who came out to support!

For some, one formative experience can lead to pathways previously unconsidered. Trenton James McMillen’s hands-on experience with a political campaign instilled in him a passion for government.
