It’s October — and that means Suffield EMS is going PINK! 💗
Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you may notice many of our providers wearing pink Suffield EMS shirts while on duty. Over the past several years, we’ve created a few different versions of our Breast Cancer Awareness shirts, and each October our providers are encouraged to wear them as part of our annual effort to raise awareness and support breast cancer research.
This year, our providers once again stepped up in a big way.
🎀 Through the purchase of this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness shirt, our providers personally donated $880 — and 100% of those funds will be donated directly to the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
A special shout-out and thank you to Disal Custom in Enfield for producing this year’s shirt for us and helping bring another great Suffield EMS Breast Cancer Awareness design to life!
For us, wearing pink is about more than changing the color of our uniform for a month. It is a visible reminder of the patients, families, friends, coworkers, survivors, and loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer — and of the importance of continuing to support research that moves us closer to better treatments and, ultimately, cures.
Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States other than skin cancers, and approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 321,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States in 2026.
There is also tremendous reason for hope. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation reports that the five-year relative survival rate for breast cancer diagnosed while still localized is approximately 99%, reflecting the importance of early detection and the progress made through research and advances in treatment.
