The Suffern PBA is heartbroken and outraged by the murder of our brother in blue, Detective Joseph Azcona. To put on the shield is to take on one of society’s most noble callings—a commitment to serve and protect, no matter the cost.

Detective Azcona, though we may not have met you, we mourn your loss as a fellow officer and a member of our fraternal profession. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

May you rest in peace and be remembered forever.

This is the hero officer we all lost last night - Newark Detective Joseph Azcona, 26. The five year veteran was executed before he could even step from his car. His partner was also shot and is recovering. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We will support our brothers and sisters at Newark NJ Department of Public Safety and in whatever they need.

NJ State PBA President Peter Andreyev said, “Detective Azcona’s murder is outrageous and should shock every NJ resident. The fact that some 14 year old decides to assassinate a New Jersey officer shows the failure of so many systems. What kind of society are we creating?”
