Massachusetts land trusts and municipalities: Are you seeking funding to conserve farmland in your community?

Through the USDA ACEP-ALE program, up to 50% of the CR/APR value may be eligible for funding. With the October 23 application deadline approaching, American Farmland Trust and USDA NRCS are offering office hours to answer questions, provide guidance on the application process, and discuss individual farmland protection projects.

Office hours will take place:
Tuesday October 13, 2:00-3:00
Monday October 19, 2:00-3:00

On August 30, Nature For MA hosted a “Yes on 6: Protect Water and Nature” rally, where Governor Maura Healey joined conservation advocates in support of Ballot Question 6.

Remember to vote Yes on Question 6 to establish a dedicated funding stream that could generate up to $100 million annually for land and water conservation, funded through sales tax revenue from sporting goods.

The Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition (MLTC) was represented at the rally by former Executive Director Robb Johnson, MLTC Board members, and Development and Operations Coordinator Lauren Berk.

On Wednesday August 26, MLTC Executive Director Katy Coburn, former MLTC Executive Director Robb Johnson, and MLTC board members joined a celebration of The Compact of Cape Cod’s 40th anniversary, honoring The Compact’s Executive Director Mark Robinson for an incredible 40 years of leadership.

Mark was recognized by colleagues and current and former Compact Board members for his dedication, vision, leadership, and humor. Under his leadership, the Compact has become a national model for regional conservation collaboration and is the second-oldest regional conservation collaborative after the Land Trust Alliance.

The evening also celebrated the determination and success of Tasia Blough and Mon Cochran to protect Sipson Island. Thank you Mark, Tasia, and Mon for your contributions to conservation!

As we begin the new fiscal year, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Buzz Constable for his years of dedicated service and leadership on our Board. Since joining in 2017, Buzz has served as President (2018–2022) and Co-Chair of our Conservation Advisory Council since its founding in 2021.

We’re excited to welcome Max Feldman to the Board as Treasurer, and to have Anna Wilkins as our new Board President and Rob Warren as Vice President. Thank you to Janet Milkman for her outstanding leadership as President over the past two years. We’re grateful for all our incredible board members and excited for the year ahead!

Executive Director Robb Johnson spoke at the annual Cape & Islands Land Conservation Legislative Day on May 8, held at Barnstable Land Trust’s Fuller Farm. The event convened elected officials and conservation organizations from across Massachusetts to explore collaboration among the Commonwealth, municipalities, and land trusts to protect lands essential to Cape Cod’s environmental health and long-term resilience.
