Stuyvesant Falls Memorial VFW Post 9593

Stuyvesant Falls Memorial VFW Post 9593 Veterans Of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 9593 was mustered May 30th 1948 as an active chapter with 52 veterans accepted into its charter membership.

For the first ten years Glencadia Hotel served as its meeting place. A building fund was proposed in 1950 and the next 8 years funds were raised through paper drives, dances, raffles, movies, bingo plus other events. In 1958 ground was broken for the new post, located on a ten acre parcel of land formerly known as Stuyvesant Falls baseball diamond. Then in October the basement was completed and th

e post in its new home conducted the first meeting. At that meeting with half a home built a committee agreed to finalize plans for completion of the building. The new banquet hall was completed September 1960 and dedicated at a gala dinner in October that year. The building and surrounding grounds are truly a tribute to the members who built it and remains today our physical foundation of our organization. We have always been strongly committed to community activities, sponsoring little league baseball teams and maintaining a ball diamond. Being a drop off point for Toys for Tots, and running a very sucessfull Voice of democracy program. Honoring all Veterans has been a particular cause for us with a long history of commitment with Memorial Day services & Veterans Day ceremonies honoring Veterans of all war. Our post members have faithfully served our Country and will continue to do so with tradition of post pride and greatness!

The latest fraud tactic targeting Veterans involves sending fake postcards claiming you're entitled to โ€œextra VA benefitsโ€ or additional payments.

A long time ago when I ( Melissa Babs Heusdens )was a baby nurse at Barnwell, I had a resident who was a Navy Veteran. We called him Uncle Bud.
He was sweet and goofy and always had the biggest smile. I knew he was a trapper, he lived "in the woods", was a Navy Veteran, and he hung at a VFW.
I had grown very fond of him. The night he was actively passing I was on the overnight shift. I knew he was going to hang on until morning when his favorite CNA came in.
I made sure to have his patriotic music playing in the background for him. I had his National Geographic on the TV. I tended to Uncle Bud until the morning, where he passed as soon as his favorite showed up.
I joined the Stuyvesant Falls Memorial Post VFW in 2022. I found out that was Uncle Bud's post.
So last night getting installed as the first female commander was full circle for me. It took the two things I love, nursing and being a veteran who helps veterans and wrapped it in a bow. (A pink one too ๐Ÿ˜‰)
I cannot be more grateful for this opportunity and it is that much more special with this connection.

This is my "bestie" and our picture of Uncle Bud. I wore pink to show that there is a place for women veterans whether you're pink or rough and tumble or anywhere in between!

We took this picture under the pictures of the past commanders because those top two rows are spinning right now. ๐Ÿ˜‰
