Planning a multi-day hunt in the Black Hills? 🗺️ It's easy to focus on the big gear and forget the small stuff that makes a huge difference. Here are 5 things you absolutely shouldn't forget:
Your Paper Map & Compass: 🗺️ Don't rely solely on your phone. Cell service is notoriously spotty in our beautiful hills. A detailed topographic map and the knowledge to use it are your best insurance against getting turned around.

A Reliable Headlamp & Extra Batteries: 💡 Those pre-dawn hikes in and late evenings out are dark! A hands-free light is indispensable for setting up camp, tracking, and field dressing. And always, always pack extra batteries.

Your Blaze Orange: 🟠 It's not just a good idea—it's the law for a reason. Pack your hat, vest, or jacket. Being visible is your number one safety priority for a successful and safe hunt.

A Sharp Knife & Honing Tool: 🔪 A dull knife is a dangerous knife. A quality, sharp field-dressing knife is critical, and a small honing steel or stone will ensure it stays that way throughout your trip.

A Serious Repair Kit: 🧵 Go beyond a basic first-aid kit. Include gear repair items like duct tape, paracord, zip ties, and a multi-tool. They're perfect for quick fixes on packs, stands, clothing, or even equipment.
