So...the national holiday world is divided on this being an "official" national day. 🙄 Uh, why?LOL...However, word on the poetry street is that August 21 is recognized as Poets Day and was founded in 2001 by C. Daniel Rhodes. Celebrate all the awesomeness of you, your poetry, and the poetry community! Your words comfort, support, encourage, and inspire others. Keep creating. 🥰

Appleton's Inaugural Poet Laureate, Cathryn Cofell is going out with a bang. With special guest poet Bruce Dethlefsen, who was Wisconsin's Poet Laureate from 2011-2012, both poets will read their original poems at ACOCA on Aug 22 from 2:30-4 p.m.

Poetry on the Map is an interactive project sponsored by Pivot Rock and curated by Cujo the Poet.

The themes for this project are poetry, writing, pride, togetherness, community, belonging, unity, tribe, village, people, etc.

You can submit up to 3 poems in one document with 40 lines maximum per poem. One submission per author.

Title your .doc or .docx file as Author Last Name, Author First Name.

Then, send it via email to [email protected].

In the subject line, please put Poetry on the Map Submission. Deadline is August 31, 2026.

Congrats Mark! Poet Mark Zimmermann had been published by Pebblebrook Press. His book Bomb Threats is a 52-page collection of poems centered on aspects of militarism and corporate greed/manipulation in American mass culture/mass entertainment, with a number of more personal reflections on art, mortality, and writing.

It is available online at various outlets, at Woodland Pattern, or directly from him at [email protected], or from Pebblebrook Press.
