The DNR reminds hunters and the general public that the 2026 pheasant season opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, and runs through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027.

The opening weekend, Oct. 17-18, has a daily bag limit of one rooster per day. Starting Monday, Oct. 19, the daily bag limit increases to two roosters per day. This limit remains in place for the remainder of the season.

Pre-stocking efforts began the week of Oct. 12 to ensure birds are on the landscape for the season opener. This season, the DNR plans to stock approximately 65,000 pheasants from the state game farm on 82 properties statewide.

Several pheasant hunting properties close at noon on weekdays beginning Oct. 19 through Nov. 3. Hunters are encouraged to double-check the legal shooting hours on the properties they intend to hunt in the online hunting regulations.

Additionally, hunters are encouraged to wear blaze orange or pink while pheasant hunting to increase visibility for other hunters and outdoor recreators. During any gun deer season, at least 50% of any hunter’s clothing above the waist must be blaze orange or fluorescent pink, except for waterfowl hunters.

Members-

As a reminder, our release day is coming up this Saturday, October 10, 2026. We will be starting the day off at 7:00 a.m. sharp with our yearly Membership Meeting. As soon as the meeting is over, we will be working on getting the birds ready to be transported in their boxes. With the number of birds this year, we will have to have (2) separate rounds of birds. It is very crucial to our success that everyone helps out as much as possible and doesn't leave as soon as they get their last birds.

We will be allowing the option of proxies this year, but please keep in mind that if we have an issue of too many people using this, we might not offer it again next year. The reason for this is because we can't afford to lose too many members on release day. If you are going to proxy birds, please email me back and let me know before Saturday. Thank you all for a wonderful season, the birds in my opinion have never looked better! It's all because of each member's hard work that this can happen year after year.

We will also need a couple of people who are willing to help out with setup on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Please let me know if you are willing to do this.

Finally, we will be selling new Door County Fish, Farm and Game hats at the release (pic attached). The cost will be $35.00. Please bring cash or check for payment.
