June is National PTSD Awareness Month. 🎗️ Not all wounds are visible, but all are real.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. If you or a shipmate are struggling, remember: courage isn't the absence of fear—it’s asking for help when you need it most.

💙 You are never alone.
💙 You are worth it.

Celebrating 40 years of the Coast Guard Ombudsman Program!

For four decades, this program has been a cornerstone of support for our Coast Guard families. Since 1986, dedicated volunteers have served as a vital link between commands and families. They ensure that leadership remains connected to the challenges and needs affecting our families, from pay and housing to childcare, crisis response, and disaster preparedness.

Thank you to every Ombudsman, past and present. Your compassion and commitment have strengthened the Coast Guard community for 40 years.

Yes our Coast Guard was paid through the month of February. But are no longer being paid until Congress acts on DHS funding. In the meantime some Coasties will likely need help with groceries or paying bills. Locally the United Way of Door County is collecting gift cards - and/or cash (that will become gift cards), so that none of our local Coast Guard personnel go without. Donations can be dropped off at the United Way office, located at: 57 N. 3rd Avenue, ramped entrance - Sturgeon Bay

The USCG operates within the Department of Homeland Security. With DHS funding cut-off, USCG personnel will go without pay. If you wish to support our local Coast Guard personnel, here is a way to do that. We are Wisconsin’s only Coast Guard City. Thank you United Way of Door County!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

United Way of Door County Accepting Gift Cards to Support Local Coast Guard Families During Partial Federal Shutdown
United States Coast Guard members and their families in our community are facing unexpected financial strain due to the federal government shutdown impacting the Department of Homeland Security. In response, United Way of Door County is mobilizing community support by collecting gift cards to assist local Coast Guard families who are not currently receiving pay.
Door County is home to dedicated Coast Guard service members who work tirelessly to keep our waters safe. Sturgeon Bay proudly has the designation of a Coast Guard City.
Gift cards to local grocery stores, gas stations, and general retailers are especially helpful, providing families with flexibility to meet their most immediate needs. Donations can be dropped off at the United Way office, located at:
57 N. 3rd Avenue, ramped entrance - Sturgeon Bay
Monday – Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
“Coast Guard members continue to report to duty and serve our community every day, even when pay is delayed,” said Amy Kohnle, Executive Director of United Way of Door County. “This is an opportunity for Door County to show our appreciation and provide tangible support to the service members and their families.”
All donated gift cards will be distributed directly to Coast Guard families in need within our community. If there are any gift cards left after the government shut down, the gift cards will be used for other families in need.
